ᐅ A Nuki smart lock on the front door can be convenient.

I don’t consider myself a smart home enthusiast, but I bought the Nuki 3.0 Pro because my wife and I really like the “phone in pocket, door unlocks” feature with my “new” Tesla (since last September). After a few software setup issues, which are now resolved, it works quite well.
I’m curious if others here are interested as well.
The note I want to make concerns the most important feature for me: the door should open automatically when I’m standing in front of it. This only works with this lock if I have been far enough away in between—and that means more than just a few meters (yards). Approaching the door with my hands full of luggage and having it unlock automatically is simply great. Unfortunately, just going next door isn’t enough. The neighboring houses are too close, and the Nuki doesn’t recognize that I was away. But after going shopping, it works 😀

My wife will kill me if I install any more "smart home nonsense." 😱
I can understand that; I also know more people who say they would never put something like that on their front door. You also see more opinions against it online. But that’s okay—everyone can and should decide for themselves what they like and what they don’t.
My partner was initially very skeptical as well and always took the key with her just to be safe. Over time, though, she gradually built up more trust because it worked so well. She also realized that if it doesn’t unlock automatically, she can still use her phone (which has never failed) or unlock it with the key. By now, she’s confident enough not to worry if she happens to forget the key at home (probably because, deep down, she remembers our hidden spare key 😀).
I think having the spare key also helps me subconsciously maintain that trust—after all, nothing works perfectly forever (including an aging mind forgetting the key at home, even if you’re not a fan of smart locks like Nuki 🙂).

Either soon you can integrate the toilet seat into the smart home system, or your spending on decorations will have to drop sharply. :p

The deal would probably work better with animals. I can already see myself building the chicken coop.
Hello Nixwill2,
... yes, I know the setting for the "geofence" distance and have it set to 100 meters (330 feet), but the feature only activates for me (us) at a significantly greater distance.
By now, I’ve gotten used to it and don’t really think about it anymore, but a shorter distance would be nicer.
The quite old and not finely adjustable front door always opens immediately when the latch is unlocked—so it is fully open then. Adjusting the door so that it does not open despite the latch being released is too much effort for me (if it would even be possible).
Fortunately, the street is positioned fairly far away from the door, so it usually does not open just by someone passing by (although that has happened before).
My conclusion: The Nuki is well-built, well-programmed, and easy to use.
It is not an essential feature in the house, but it is a pleasure for me.

For short distances outside, I still have to find the small lever in the lock, move it about 2 millimeters (0.08 inches), and then reset it afterwards so I don’t need a key.
The unlocking function activates at about 5 meters (16 feet) of approach. However, this does not seem nearly sufficient for detecting when the door user has left. Bluetooth probably can’t handle this, otherwise the Nuki programmers would likely have made it more finely adjustable.
