penisauHello everyone,
I recently purchased some IKEA Brimnes furniture and wanted to find out if IKEA offers any warranty extensions for these items. I am aware of IKEA’s standard warranty period, but I’m wondering if there is an option to extend it specifically for Brimnes series pieces, perhaps for an additional cost or through a special warranty program?
I would like to know if anyone here has experience with this or perhaps knows official information from IKEA. I am especially interested in details about the scope of the warranty extension, how long it lasts, whether it only covers damage caused by material defects, and what conditions need to be met.
Thanks in advance for any helpful answers!

Basically, IKEA provides a statutory warranty of two years on all furniture. This also applies to the BRIMNES series. An official extended warranty on furniture pieces like BRIMNES is not offered by IKEA.
IKEA generally offers a so-called "quality guarantee" on furniture, which usually covers two years from the purchase date, but this is standardized and cannot be extended.
Since the BRIMNES series is considered a standard product line, no special warranty extensions apply. Any extensions would have to be obtained through third-party providers, which IKEA does not offer.
It is also important to note that damages caused by improper use or incorrect assembly are excluded from the warranty.

Since the BRIMNES furniture series is considered a standard product, no special warranty extensions apply. That sums it up quite well, but it’s worth adding that the BRIMNES series is made from MDF boards and coated particle boards, which generally places its durability within IKEA’s usual standards.
In practice, this means that damage caused by moisture, incorrectly assembled components, or extra loads (e.g., excessive weight in drawers) is not covered by the warranty.
What many don’t realize is that the warranty or guarantee starts from the date of purchase, not the date of assembly. Therefore, it’s advisable to assemble the furniture promptly to fully benefit from the protection period.
If you’re interested in extending your warranty, it might be worth checking if your household insurance covers certain types of damage. However, this is not an actual warranty extension by IKEA but an insurance solution.
I’m also curious whether you purchased the BRIMNES furniture new or if there is another issue, such as damage?

Yes, I purchased the furniture new, but after reading this, I’m wondering if an extended warranty might be worthwhile for this relatively affordable series—if such an option even exists.
My main concern is being covered for potential material fatigue or manufacturing defects that only become visible after a year or two. This is often standard with higher-end furniture, but I’m unsure about IKEA.
Now I know that IKEA doesn’t specifically offer such an extension for BRIMNES.
Are there any experiences regarding how durable this furniture is in everyday use? Or perhaps any indications of whether IKEA tends to be accommodating with issues after the warranty period?
I would appreciate any further insights.

Are there any experiences regarding how stable the furniture is in everyday use? Or are there any indications of whether IKEA is flexible with issues after the warranty period?Such questions are always interesting because statutory warranties are clearly regulated, but long-term performance and goodwill cases are less so.
From my perspective, the following points should be considered:
- IKEA produces mass-market products, so quality can vary
- Goodwill cases after the warranty period are possible but highly dependent on the individual situation
- User reports indicate that BRIMNES furniture holds up well under normal use but is not designed for heavy loads or continuous exposure to moisture
Extending the warranty is hardly financially viable for IKEA, as the furniture is relatively inexpensive and replacement parts can usually be ordered for free if needed.
If someone wants to be on the safe side, I recommend household insurance or regular maintenance and care of the furniture.
