Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to assemble several Billy shelves and wanted to ask the community: Which screwing techniques do you prefer when putting together Billy? I am especially interested in your approach to screwing in the screws, whether you use any special tools, aids, or specific sequences to ensure a stable and straight assembly. Tips on avoiding damage or warping are also greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your experiences!

I generally recommend initially screwing in the screws by hand to prevent slipping or misalignment when working with BILLY. Afterwards, I use a cordless screwdriver with a torque limiter to avoid overtightening the screws and to protect the material.

It is important to always hold the screwdriver straight; otherwise, the holes can widen or the wood may split.

In addition to PULAU: When assembling BILLY, it is advisable to set the cordless screwdriver to a low torque to avoid damaging the particleboard.

The screws with the small Phillips bit (PH1) should first be carefully screwed in by hand. Tightening in stages helps prevent warping.

Additionally, I recommend choosing the order of the screws so that you work symmetrically – for example, tightening diagonally opposite screws first.

I always use a cordless drill with low torque. First, start the screws by hand, then tighten them only slightly. This prevents damage.

When assembling, I always start with a manual screwdriver. Only when everything fits properly do I tighten it further with a cordless drill. This way, nothing gets damaged.

In short: First, screw in loosely, then gradually tighten. Whenever possible, always insert straight and with precision. This helps prevent splitting the material.
