Hello everyone,

I recently bought an Ikea Pax wardrobe and want to set it up at home on a somewhat uneven floor. I noticed that the wardrobe wobbles and does not stand very stable without additional measures. My question is: How can I best stabilize my Ikea Pax on uneven floors without making major changes to the construction or affecting the wardrobe’s appearance? What techniques, materials, or adjustments have worked well for you to create a stable and long-lasting solution? I’m also interested in practical tips or experiences with specific leveling solutions for the floor or the wardrobe itself.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hey bar-peo!

I know your problem all too well – uneven floors can be a real challenge with furniture like the Pax. My advice is to stick small rubber or even felt pads under the legs. These pads come in different thicknesses, so you can effectively level the floor.

If you want something a bit more durable, look into adjustable furniture feet – they can be turned individually, often gaining a few millimeters (inches) of height or stability. They’re not completely hidden but usually come in black or white and don’t stand out too much.

Lastly, make sure to place the wardrobe against a wall and use the supplied wall mounts. This helps the unit pull together better, and usually reduces any wobbling significantly.

Good luck! 👍

The easiest solution is to use furniture glides for leveling or to place small felt pads underneath. Adjustable feet are a good option but are usually expensive.

Hello bar-peo,

I recommend the following three-step approach:

- First, check how uneven the floor is. A spirit level or a simple straight edge will help with this.

- If the unevenness is less than 5 mm (0.2 inches), you can stick plastic or felt pads of different thicknesses directly under the adjustable feet. Be careful not to use pads that are too thick, as this can cause the cabinet to wobble.

- For larger unevenness, adjustable furniture feet are ideal. You screw these onto the bottom edge of the Pax panel to level it individually.

Finally, be sure to use the included wall mounting bracket to ensure additional stability. Alternatively, if needed, you can mount the feet on a sturdy substructure made of wooden battens, which provides extra support.

A common mistake is to skip the wall mounting, which often leads to dangerous wobbling.

This is an interesting question because it highlights a fundamental tension: stability versus aesthetics. Most solutions try to level the floor, but that is not a perfect approach since the furniture itself is rigid.

Furthermore, it should be noted that Ikea Pax already includes structural safety features (wall brackets, screwed connectors) — without these, you cannot expect optimal safety.

Now, if you do not want to permanently modify the floor surface or add large understructures, your options are basically limited to individually adjusting the feet or using a full-surface base, such as a solid wood board, that you carefully plan or cut to size.

In my opinion, solutions involving small shims are just a temporary fix that won’t hold up in the long term. A permanent, secure solution must structurally compensate for the unevenness, even if it requires a small modification to the cabinet.

Hello bar-peo,

I’m happy to explain in detail how you can optimally stabilize your Ikea Pax on an uneven floor:

1. Floor assessment: Use a spirit level or a short straightedge to accurately measure the unevenness. This will give you a basis for how much adjustment is needed.

2. Foot adjustment: The Pax comes standard with fixed feet that cannot be adjusted. Therefore, I recommend switching to adjustable furniture feet, which are available in various designs. These can be attached directly to the underside.

3. Padding: For minor adjustments, felt or rubber pads that you stick under the feet are suitable. However, as faso31 already mentioned, this is more of a temporary solution.

4. Substructure: If the floor is significantly uneven, consider installing a full-surface substructure, such as a custom-cut plywood board, precisely fitted to the floor. You place the wardrobe on this, which also increases load-bearing capacity.

5. Wall attachment: Essential for every Pax! This reduces wobbling and prevents tipping.

Conclusion: Depending on the level of floor unevenness, you should choose between minor leveling measures or a sturdy substructure, secure the wardrobe properly, and then it should be stable and safe.
