Hello everyone, I’m currently facing the challenge of mounting my new IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets on a drywall surface. The wall is stable, but it consists purely of drywall without any visible wooden studs or metal framing at the mounting location. My specific question is: What fastening methods are recommended for drywall to securely and permanently install the Metod cabinets? Ideally, I would also like to know which types of anchors and screws are best suited to ensure the construction can handle a certain load without the cabinets slipping down or damaging the wall. Thanks in advance for all tips and experiences!

For a mounting strip, I recommend spruce or pine wood, as they are sufficiently strong.

- Cross-section: at least 40 x 60 mm (1.6 x 2.4 inches)
- Length depends on the width of the cabinet; fasten to at least 3 profiles
- Use self-tapping sheet metal screws for metal profiles (e.g., 4.5 x 40 mm or 4.5 x 50 mm (0.18 x 1.6 inches or 0.18 x 2 inches))

This way, you distribute loads optimally and increase the stability of the entire structure.

In my opinion, all the effort with strips and special dowels is often overrated. If you simply work directly on the drywall using plastic anchors, you’ll finish quickly – yes, that won’t hold very long, but who really hangs fully loaded kitchen cabinets? It’s way too much effort for something that only lasts a few years.

It would be better to do it properly: screw the drywall to the studs, install wood battens behind, or even attach a load-bearing wall panel. That is the only reliable method. Everything else is just patchwork.

There’s some truth to that! 😅 If you put in the effort and think long term, it definitely pays off to invest in a solid substructure. After all, kitchen cabinets aren’t lightweight and need to hold up over time. Who wants to keep fixing things or worry about something falling down?

Summary on fastening Ikea Metod to drywall:
- Metal cavity anchors for light loads
- Wooden mounting strip for heavier loads
- Screws into suitable anchors or directly into metal studs
- Check wall structure beforehand

This ensures safety and long-term stability.
