I have a KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA that stands on a regular carpeted floor. Unfortunately, the shelf is not completely level; it leans slightly and wobbles a bit, even though I assembled it exactly according to the instructions. I suspect the soft carpet might be the cause, perhaps it compresses unevenly or the shelf warps because of it?
I wanted to ask if anyone has had similar experiences and how to best address this issue. Are there specific pads or solutions that help the KALLAX stand stable and straight despite being on carpet?
Maybe there are also tips on how to safely level the shelf without damaging the furniture or the carpet. I’ve already considered adjustable feet, but I haven’t found much concrete information online.
I would really appreciate practical advice and shared experiences!

The KALLAX shelf unit does not come with adjustable feet by default. However, you can add special furniture castors or threaded furniture feet to compensate for uneven floors. On carpeted floors, it is common for furniture to wobble slightly because the surface is soft.
A simple and effective solution is to use flat furniture glides made of hard plastic, which prevent sinking into the carpet and provide a stable base. At the same time, they distribute weight more evenly. Alternatively, plastic or wooden boards can be used as a foundation.
Avoid using simple cardboard or paper pads, as they are not load-bearing.

It’s also important to make sure the shelf is properly assembled and that no screws are loose. I also found it helpful to secure the shelf to the wall, as this provides extra stability and prevents wobbling, even if the carpet makes it harder to stand firmly.
Maybe this will help you too!

In summary, the KALLAX shelving unit tends to have stability issues on soft carpet flooring if used without modified supports or feet.
It is recommended to use:
• Durable plastic furniture glides to minimize sinking
• Optionally retrofitted, height-adjustable furniture feet with threaded fittings
• Additional securing by wall mounting to prevent tipping
Furthermore, it is essential to check that the unit is properly and securely assembled to rule out any pre-existing mechanical deformation. This ensures the best possible stability under the given conditions.

It is also important that the shelf is assembled perfectly straight and that no screws are loose. That’s a good point, thanks! I double-checked the shelf today; all the screws are tight, and it stands perfectly level on a hard floor outside of the carpet. This really puzzles me why it wobbles so much on the carpet.

Additionally, checking for correct and solid assembly is mandatoryThanks also for the summary; it confirms a lot of what I planned to try.
