Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of assembling and using my Ikea Hemnes cabinets in the most space-saving way possible. Specifically, I am interested in whether there are proven methods or tips to arrange or modify the cabinets so that they take up as little space as possible in small rooms while remaining functional. The cabinets are standard sizes, and I have already considered whether it is possible to alter the internal components or perhaps install several smaller cabinets instead of one large one. I would be interested to hear about your experiences and advice regarding the assembly and space-efficient use of the Hemnes series. Thanks in advance for your responses!

It is best to assemble the cabinets individually and attach them directly to the wall. This allows you to place them closer together without gaps in between. Make optimal use of the existing shelves to maximize storage space.

Surprise: Space-saving installation does not automatically mean assembling everything completely! Sometimes it is better to keep the parts loose and modular to maintain flexibility. It is often overlooked that a firmly screwed-together cabinet is less practical than individual units.

Hello Ayman53, I’m happy to help you with space-saving installation of the Hemnes cabinets. First, you should take precise measurements of the room and plan carefully before installation to avoid overhangs and unnecessary gaps. Tip 1: Work with several smaller units instead of one large cabinet – this allows for more flexible arrangement. Tip 2: Remove shelves where possible in areas where you might, for example, need hooks for vertical storage. Tip 3: Use the back panel not only for structural support but also for storage solutions (e.g., hook rails). Tip 4: Attach the furniture directly to the walls to prevent tipping and to push the units closely together. Often, less is more: plan precisely and make the best use of internal compartments.

That sounds interesting. Do you have any advice on how to do this without compromising the stability? I’d rather not damage the cabinets, but vertical storage seems really practical for my needs right now.

Regarding shelves: With Hemnes, you can often remove individual shelves or position them more flexibly. It is important to always secure the cabinet against tipping when modifying it, for example by fixing it to the wall. For vertical storage space, thin hook rails or pull-out rods are a good addition without damaging the furniture structure.
