Hello everyone,
I am currently facing an issue with my IKEA Kallax shelving units. I have built a new cabinet that is slightly larger than the standard Kallax dimensions. Now, the door hinges I intended to use apparently do not fit properly because they seem to be too small for my cabinet.
Specifically, I am talking about the hinges (door fittings) that are normally used with Kallax doors. Due to the changed dimensions, the mounting bracket does not fit precisely, and the door cannot be installed or adjusted correctly.
Does anyone have experience with solutions for such adjustment issues? Are there alternative hinges or tricks to modify the mounting bracket so that the doors also fit larger cabinets?
I look forward to your feedback and ideas, thank you in advance!

On the issue of door hinges for modified Kallax carcasses:
The standard Kallax hinges are butt hinges with a special mounting plate designed for the 37mm (1.5 inches) thick frame and typical drilling patterns. When the carcass is larger or designed differently, the system often no longer fits without modifications.
A common solution is to use so-called "cup hinges" with longer hinge arms or adjustable mounting plates. These provide more flexibility in door positioning.
Alternatively, mounting rails or custom-made adapters can be used to adjust the hinges in height or depth.
It is also important to accurately determine the door thickness and the gap to the carcass so that the hinges operate without play and function properly.
My tip: Before purchasing replacement hinges, be sure to double-check measurements and look for models that fit precisely.

An alternative is to use a different hinge that you attach on the outsideThat’s exactly what I did! 🙂 I slightly enlarged my cabinet box and then used external hinges. The installation was really easy, and the doors fit perfectly. Plus, you can adjust the doors more easily afterward. Definitely worthwhile if the standard cabinet box doesn’t fit!

Concealed hinges with longer arms or adjustable mounting platesAlso a very good idea, but I found external hinges more practical if you want to customize your doors. Good luck!
If the door hinge is too small, switching to different types of hinges is often the only solution. The standard IKEA parts are not adaptable to other dimensions.
It is also possible to use washers or spacers to increase the gap. However, this is sometimes not stable enough.
