Hello everyone,

I have several IKEA Brimnes furniture items at home, mainly dressers and cabinets, which I have recently assembled. I noticed that some of them feel a bit unstable, especially when fully loaded or if someone leans on them. My specific question is: What is the best way to stabilize IKEA Brimnes furniture to ensure they stand firmly and do not wobble?

I understand that IKEA usually recommends securing them to the wall, but are there additional methods, materials, or tips to improve the stability of Brimnes furniture? I would appreciate concrete advice on enhancing their steadiness, especially considering the construction and often slightly loose joint connections.

Thank you in advance for your tips!

The most important thing is to always secure the furniture using the supplied wall brackets.

Additionally, it helps to retighten the screws after 1-2 weeks, as the material can settle.

You can also place small rubber feet underneath to prevent wobbling.

That is indeed the best first step. I would like to add that with Brimnes furniture, the combination of wall mounting and additionally secured joints significantly contributes to stability.

Since Brimnes is made from particleboard and an MDF-like material, a few tips can help improve its stability:

- Before assembling the individual parts, check all connection points and reinforce them with wood glue if necessary
- Screw in screws and dowels carefully, avoiding overtightening to prevent damaging the material
- Do not place the furniture directly on uneven floors; use elastic straps or supports if needed
- Install additional metal corner braces on the inside (not very visible) for better reinforcement

Many people also forget that a fully loaded piece of furniture exerts different pressure than an empty one. This means that especially the shelves and connection points should be carefully inspected.

When it comes to wall mounting, make sure to use dowels appropriate for the wall type (e.g., hollow wall anchors for drywall). Safety should always come first, especially if there are children in the household.

I can fully confirm this! I did the same, and my Brimnes dresser is now super stable – no more wobbling!

Also, don’t be discouraged if the furniture feels a bit unstable at first. This can be easily fixed with a few tricks and a bit of patience.

I also checked and tightened the screws multiple times, which really helps.

If you do this, you’ll really enjoy the series!
