Hello everyone, I recently assembled a Brimnes wardrobe from Ikea and I’m wondering how stable this piece of furniture really is under everyday conditions. Online reviews often focus on the appearance or price, but provide less concrete information about its stability or how the materials behave after assembly.

I am particularly interested in whether the wardrobe – especially larger versions with multiple doors and drawers – remains truly sturdy when loaded normally, or if it tends to wobble, deform, or have issues with hinges and joints under load.

What are your experiences? Are there any special assembly tips that improve or reduce stability? Do you use any additional fastenings to secure it to the wall?

I look forward to your insights and advice on how to keep the Brimnes wardrobe stable over the long term.

Your question about the stability of the Brimnes wardrobe raises an important point: with Ikea furniture, the quality of assembly is crucial for durability.

From my experience, the Brimnes is stable if you pay attention to the following aspects:
- Precise assembly according to the instructions, especially the correct tensioning of the back panel
- Always secure it to the wall to prevent wobbling
- Distribute loads on the drawers and doors evenly; avoid overloading

The material is often a wood-based panel with a plastic surface, which is not completely rigid but normally poses no issue with regular use. However, the screws sometimes have some play, which may require slight retightening later.

In short: Wall anchoring is mandatory for the Brimnes. Without it, the unit will definitely wobble. Otherwise, it is stable enough for normal use.

This is an important observation. I have assembled the Brimnes in both the 2-door and 3-door versions. The following details are crucial for stability during assembly:

- Align the back panel precisely and hammer in the nails evenly at the same time. This ensures good tension between the side panels.
- The connections using the supplied small metal fasteners fit accurately, but if assembled imprecisely, they can cause slight play.
- Especially with larger models, it is advisable to occasionally tighten the fasteners slightly with an Allen key.

Regarding the material: It consists of coated particleboard, which does not offer the solid stability of solid wood but is well manufactured. The surface tends to develop pressure marks under heavy load, although these can be minimized by repositioning items within the frame.

As flota already mentioned, wall mounting is not an unnecessary effort but essential for safety reasons. It gives the furniture the necessary support and prevents tipping.

I find it fascinating that many people assume IKEA furniture is always cheap and flimsy.

What does "normal use" mean? To me, these products are designed to meet the exact needs for which they are purchased. If you want more—like durability and stability comparable to solid wood—you simply buy more expensive furniture.

The Brimnes is sturdy enough as long as you don’t use it as a construction site or workshop storage. But please don’t expect miracles. Stability comes at a price; here you get good design and functionality, nothing more.

This has nothing to do with being "cheap" but is about clear market positioning and setting realistic expectations.

I can only confirm what has already been said here. I was initially skeptical myself, especially because I like to fully utilize my Brimnes. After assembling it, I was surprised at how sturdy everything feels. Of course, securing it to the wall is very important.

I also want to mention that the design mattered to me – a piece of furniture like this should also look good. Still, I sometimes felt uneasy when placing heavy items inside, like winter jackets or shoes.

For me, it’s also a matter of maintenance: I regularly check that all connections are still tight, tighten any screws that have become loose or misaligned, and that noticeably helps. If you just set up the furniture and then ignore it, you shouldn’t expect miracles. With some care, though, I have a stable and attractive piece of furniture.
