Hello everyone, I am currently planning my new kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and am focusing on the question: How can I optimize storage space in the base cabinets of my kitchen with suitable organization systems? Specifically, I am interested in how to efficiently use both deep and shallow drawers to create maximum space for dishes, pots, and kitchen utensils without it becoming messy or having to constantly rearrange everything. What organization systems have you used to keep interiors clear and, above all, functional? Are there proven solutions for effective drawer use, perhaps with dividers, inserts, or special storage aids? I look forward to your tips and experiences.

Efficient storage utilization in Ikea Metod base cabinets is best achieved through modular internal drawers and flexible divider systems.

- For deep drawers, combinations of adjustable inserts made of wood or plastic are suitable, creating separate sections for pots, lids, and kitchen tools.
- Shallow drawers can be optimally organized with cutlery trays or combinations of shallow containers for spices and small utensils.
- The use of non-slip mats prevents items from shifting.

Additionally, I recommend adjusting the drawer height as needed, since Metod offers various cabinet heights that better suit different storage requirements. For those seeking flexibility, Metod’s internal drawers with storage dividers are a good option, as they can be easily rearranged.

This is exactly what I find so interesting about the Ikea Metod system – its supposed flexibility often falls apart in reality. Why? Because many assume that a few standard dividers will solve the problem, but actually, the Metod base cabinets are quite spacious, yet also very empty and simply designed, which often prevents optimal use of the space.

In my opinion, when it comes to organization, you shouldn’t just rely on the usual shelves or simple plastic boxes. Why not consider unconventional solutions like custom inserts or even creative stacking organizers?

Also, it’s frustrating when you constantly have to rearrange everything because the drawers aren’t well thought out. It’s better to spend some time customizing the systems individually rather than settling for ready-made all-purpose solutions.

For effective optimization of storage space in Ikea Metod base cabinets, a systematic approach is essential. The starting point is a precise inventory of the items to be stored: dimensions, weight, and frequency of use.

Next, I recommend dividing the functionality into several levels. First, the drawer depth should be maximized, which can be achieved with additional internal pull-outs that run on rollers and facilitate access. Ideally, modular divider systems are chosen that allow for both horizontal and vertical organization.

To avoid wasted space, customizable subdivisions can be created using metal or wooden partition walls that are also stable. Particularly useful are drawer dividers with adjustable grid spacing, ensuring that even infrequently used items have a dedicated place.

Another improvement is the use of cabinet doors, for example with small hook or holder systems for lids or cutting boards. The combination of drawers and door-integrated organization systems offers maximum storage capacity without compromising usability.

Finally, I advise ensuring that the chosen organization systems are compatible with the Metod standard depth of 60cm (24 inches) to prevent issues with drawer slides and maintain optimal stability.

I am curious: What are your specific criteria for selecting organization systems? Does anyone rely on branded products or custom-designed solutions?
