I recently ordered several Hemnes furniture pieces from IKEA, but unfortunately some parts were missing upon delivery. My question is: What is the best approach when parts are missing from an IKEA Hemnes wardrobe or chest of drawers during delivery? What steps are effective to quickly get replacements, and what should I keep in mind when communicating with IKEA? I am especially interested in any helpful tips for documenting the missing parts and how quickly IKEA typically responds in such cases. Thanks in advance for your experiences!

Simply call IKEA directly or contact them online, preferably with the order number and a detailed description of the missing parts. Usually, they send replacement parts fairly quickly.

This is really frustrating, especially when you have already started assembling and then realize that important parts are missing. I know this can be quite upsetting. I think it’s important to stay calm and clearly explain to IKEA what is missing. Most users report that IKEA is very helpful in such cases. However, you should also check the delivery immediately and document everything.

I would recommend approaching the unpacking of the Hemnes parts systematically:

- Open all numbered packages and check the parts against the packing list.
- Immediately document any missing parts in writing, ideally with photos of the package contents and packaging.
- Note down the item numbers of the missing components, as this speeds up the replacement request.
- Make the complaint either by phone or through the IKEA customer portal, providing all details precisely.

Some have found it helpful to include the assembly instructions as a reference to show exactly which parts are missing. This helps the service representative better understand the situation.

What poted writes is something I can fully support. I once had a Hemnes wardrobe with missing screws. I contacted IKEA through their service hotline and had all the order details and information about the missing parts ready.

Important points:
- Remain polite and precise when describing the issue.
- Sometimes it helps to briefly describe the furniture piece again (model, color) to avoid misunderstandings.
- Usually, the missing parts are sent out free of charge and quite quickly—in my case within a week.

If you have an IKEA Family account, this can make communication easier because the order is saved there.

Thank you, poted, that helps me a lot! When unpacking, I did a rough check of everything but didn’t organize it systematically with numbering. I will do it that way next time.

One more question: Have you ever encountered situations where replacement parts were no longer available? If so, how did you handle it?
