ᐅ Properly Aligning and Securely Installing Ikea Metod Wall Cabinets

NemanHello everyone, I recently received my Ikea Metod wall cabinets and am now facing the challenge of aligning them properly and securely mounting them to the wall. The instructions seem clear, but I have concerns about how to achieve a perfectly level alignment while ensuring a secure attachment, especially since my walls are made of concrete and I definitely don’t want anything to shift or come loose later on. Are there any special tips for preparing concrete walls, which tools you absolutely recommend using, and how to best adjust and install the cabinets so they remain safely mounted in the long term? I am also interested in proven methods for hanging several wall cabinets closely together, so that the gaps between the cabinets are even and neat. Thanks in advance for your experiences and advice!
For aligning and securely mounting the Ikea Metod wall cabinets, especially on concrete walls, I recommend the following organized approach:
- First, use a reliable laser level to mark the exact position, ensuring the cabinets can be installed perfectly horizontally.
- For fastening on concrete walls, use special hammer-in anchors or heavy-duty anchors that can safely support the weight over time.
- Use a hammer drill and appropriately sized drill bits for the anchors when drilling into concrete.
- It is important to realign the cabinets against the wall with a spirit level before final fixing and, if necessary, temporarily secure them with mounting strips or wedges.
- To hang multiple cabinets flush side by side, follow this order: always start with the middle or one of the middle cabinets and work outward. This allows precise adjustment of the joints.
- Additionally, after mounting the hanging rails, the cabinets can be individually adjusted in height and sideways to compensate for any unevenness.
This method should ensure a safe and neat installation.

For fastening to concrete walls, specially designed impact anchors or heavy-duty anchors are suitable, as they securely support the weight permanently.I see this a bit differently. Sure, impact anchors are traditional, but for modern concrete walls and very heavy hanging cabinets, I would rather recommend chemical anchors (injection mortar). Although they are more complex to install, they provide much better load capacity and reduce the risk of stress cracks in the material.

Always start with the middle or one of the middle cabinets and work your way outward. Also, this is not a must. I have often installed from the outside inward to minimize visible measurement errors at the edges. Ultimately, what matters is carefully checking the gaps and adjusting them if necessary.
If you only follow the instructions, you will never fully exploit the appearance and stability – sometimes unconventional methods are more effective.

The instructions seem clear, but I’m concerned about how to get the cabinets perfectly level while ensuring they are securely fastened.I can reassure you – it’s not that complicated if you take your time and proceed step by step.
Here are my tips to make the installation a bit more relaxed:
- Really take your time marking out; with a good spirit level or, even better, a laser level, it’s almost effortless.
- If you don’t have professional tools, a regular spirit level and a pencil will do, but then you need to be a bit more careful.
- For secure fastening into a concrete wall: use a rotary hammer drill and hammer anchors (or, as GALEO4 suggests, chemical anchors if you want extra stability).
- Important: don’t drill too quickly; stop once in a while to check if the holes are in the correct positions.

Interesting thread, especially because the discussion about the correct installation of Ikea Metod wall cabinets is often too superficial.
A more nuanced approach to the structural aspects is needed here. Hammer anchors are sufficient for standard loads, but for kitchen cabinets that carry significant weight, it is important to carefully calculate whether the number and type of fasteners can withstand the actual loads.
There is also little discussion about optimizing load distribution: it can be helpful to install additional reinforcements, such as a solid wood batten behind the cabinets, which distributes the load over several points.
Adjustment is mainly achieved through the adjustable hangers on the back of the Metod cabinets. It is important to carefully balance these precisely and check them with a good spirit level. There should be no gaps close to the wall, as these create stress points that promote material fatigue.
Anyone who wants the cabinets to hang securely for the long term should therefore think beyond standard installation and consider using reinforcements if necessary.
