finnnarHello everyone,
I recently purchased a Hemnes dresser set from Ikea and noticed upon unpacking that some parts are missing. Specifically, the metal drawer slides and a few small screws, which are essential for assembly.
I have already tried to contact customer service but haven’t had any success so far.
My question for you: What are your best experiences or tips for this kind of situation? Should I go directly to the Ikea store or order replacement parts online using a form? How long does this usually take? And what can be done if replacement parts are out of stock or communication stalls?
Thank you in advance for your help!

It specifically concerns the metal runners for the drawers as well as some small screws that are essential for assembly. That is really frustrating, but fortunately not an uncommon issue with Ikea. I recommend you first contact customer service through the Ikea contact form and clearly specify the missing parts there. In my experience, replacement parts are usually delivered quite quickly, often within a week.
If that takes too long or you don’t get a response, it’s also worth speaking directly to staff at your nearest Ikea store. Sometimes employees can help immediately or provide a replacement parts package on site.
It’s important to describe exactly which parts are missing (ideally with the item numbers from the instructions) to avoid any confusion.
If Ikea does not respond at all, you can also consider using the return policy or look into buyer protection through your payment method to obtain a replacement or a refund.

What are your best experiences or tips for a case like this? Should I return directly to the Ikea store or rather order replacement parts via a form? How long does that usually take? And what can be done if replacement parts are out of stock or communication stalls? From a systematic perspective, I recommend the following approach:
- First, use the replacement parts order through the Ikea online shop or the contact form, as this documents your request.
- Depending on the region and availability, delivery of replacement parts can take between 3 and 10 business days.
- If the item is out of stock, customer service should inform you and usually offer an alternative part or a refund.
- If there is no response, I suggest following up by phone. Communication channels with large furniture retailers can sometimes experience delays.
- Additionally, there is always the option to go to the store and inquire in person, especially if you need a timely solution.
Important: Note down all communication details, names, and confirmation receipts in case issues arise later.

If there is no response, I recommend following up by phone. And if there is no reply, call Ikea directly or visit the store.
This usually brings quick clarification and often immediate replacement parts.
