Hello everyone, I have a question about mounting Ikea Metod countertops, especially on walls covered with tiles. In my kitchen, tiles were installed, and now I am facing the challenge of attaching the Metod countertop cleanly and securely to them. I would like to avoid drilling normal anchors or screws into the tiles if possible, as I am worried about damaging the tiles or the attachment not holding well enough. Therefore, I am interested in which methods or tools you would recommend to fix the countertop firmly to the tiled wall without damaging the tiles. Are there any special adhesives, screw systems, or mounting profiles that have proven to be particularly effective in this situation? I look forward to your experiences and tips!

I would drill directly into the joints, not into the tiles themselves. There, you can securely fasten with appropriate anchors without risking the tiles cracking. Alternatively, use clamping rails that attach to the panel from above or below.

Hello mudo58, regarding the attachment of the Ikea Metod countertop to tiled walls, I can offer you some proven tips. If you want to minimize the risk of damaging the tiles, drilling into the grout joints is indeed the best option. For this, it is best to use a diamond core bit or masonry drill bit with a thin tip, and make sure to work slowly.

If you prefer adhesive solutions, there are special construction adhesives, for example based on MS polymer, which are waterproof and very strong. However, you should ensure that the surface is grease-free and well prepared. One disadvantage of the adhesive solution is that later disassembly is not easy.

Additionally, edge profile systems or so-called angle brackets fixed to the underside of the countertop can help secure the countertop to the cabinet and reduce the load on the wall fixing.

In any case, it is recommended to do a temporary fitting before final installation to ensure everything fits correctly and the countertop is securely held.

I am familiar with this issue – especially when you care about the appearance and don’t want to drill into the expensive tiles, it can be quite challenging. One idea I have is that sometimes too much reliance is placed on a single method, and combining different fixing techniques can provide greater stability.

For example: a few screws into the grout lines, mounting brackets under the countertop, and possibly an additional special adhesive as a safety measure. This gives you confidence and helps prevent wobbling.

I also think it’s important to take your time during preparation and avoid rushing, as this helps prevent mistakes that can cause frustration. Hopefully, this is helpful!

Exactly. MS polymer-based construction adhesive has proven effective for tiled walls. Just make sure to clean the surface thoroughly and lightly roughen both the countertop and the wall to improve adhesion. Alternatively, you can combine the adhesive with a few screws in the joints, if possible.
