Hello everyone, I am planning to install hanging rods in my Ikea Pax corner wardrobe, but I’m not sure about the best approach. The wardrobe is a 2x2 corner unit, where the two parts are connected at a right angle. My specific question is: How do I securely attach hanging rods in an Ikea Pax corner wardrobe so that they can safely bear the load and remain stable and straight? Do I need special brackets or custom solutions because it’s a corner? Are there any tips or experiences regarding the positioning in the corner area or the method of attachment? I want to avoid the rods sagging over time or causing damage to the side panels. Thanks in advance for any advice!

For the Pax corner cabinets, it is best to use the original Pax clothes rod holders that come standard. For the corner solution, I recommend attaching a holder on each side at the height of the rod and then clamping the rod between them. Make sure not to put excessive load on the side panels; consider adding additional support in the middle if needed.

That’s definitely a good starting point, but the standard solution in the corner often isn’t quite enough due to challenging load distribution. For corner wardrobes, I recommend the following:

- The clothes rail must be perfectly horizontal; otherwise, you’ll have load concentration issues.
- Use the supplied brackets but reinforce them with an additional central support in the corner to prevent sagging.
- The rail should engage the brackets by at least 2 to 3 cm (around 1 inch) in depth inside the wardrobe panels on both sides to ensure stability.
- If the wall thickness is thin, consider using metal angle brackets secured from underneath to strengthen the supports.

In my experience, the clamp solution alone is often insufficient when hanging heavy clothing. Could you also provide the width and depth of the unusually shaped corner section? That way, the load path can be addressed more precisely.

This is an important point that is often underestimated. I would also add that before installation, you should definitely pre-drill the screw holes on the side panels to avoid damaging the material. Additionally, use the supplied wall plugs, as the side panel could easily tear out otherwise. When positioning the rod in a corner, it is sensible to install it so that you can comfortably access your clothes later—meaning not too high or too close to the corner.

Furthermore, if the material at the corner seems thinner or less sturdy, an extra support or using a strong metal rod bracket is a worthwhile investment. For me, this significantly increased the lifespan of the entire setup.

This standard recommendation is practical but not always ideal when considering the forces acting on the brackets in the corner. The corner setup can create uneven loads that may cause warping or damage with typical installation.

My suggestion is not to mount the clothing rod directly in the corner but to leave a small gap of at least 5cm (2 inches) from the corner edge on each side to distribute the force more evenly. Additionally, I believe it makes sense to consider using special metal profiles or at least an extra cross brace in the corner to relieve the side walls.

Those who want to be on the safe side should therefore build or attach their own reinforcements beyond the original brackets to avoid long-term damage.
