Hello everyone,
Recently, I bought several IKEA Besta drawers and am currently looking for suitable storage boxes that fit perfectly inside these drawers. I am particularly concerned with the following aspects:
- The dimensions of the boxes should ideally match or come very close to the internal dimensions of the Besta drawers to make the most efficient use of storage space.
- The boxes should be sturdy, easily stackable, and preferably made of a durable material such as plastic.
- Additionally, I am interested in whether there are specifically designed storage systems available on the aftermarket that fit perfectly, or if it is better to use universal boxes.
Does anyone know of any tried-and-tested recommendations or products that work especially well? I look forward to your experiences and tips!

Hello Doruk,
Regarding your question about suitable storage boxes for IKEA BESTA drawers, I can share some detailed tips based on my own experience. The BESTA drawers often have an internal width of about 60 cm (24 inches) and a depth of approximately 40 cm (16 inches), but exact dimensions vary depending on the model.
Many commercially produced storage boxes don’t exactly match these dimensions, so compromises are often necessary, for example using smaller boxes combined in multiples.
Here is the approach I used that might also help you:
- First, measure the exact internal dimensions of the drawers (length, width, height).
- Then look specifically for modular plastic boxes that cover half (30 x 40 cm / 12 x 16 inches) or one third (20 x 40 cm / 8 x 16 inches) of the internal area so they can be arranged side by side efficiently.
- Materials: Polypropylene (PP) is sturdy, easy to clean, and durable—important for frequent use.
- Tip: Check IKEA’s own storage systems, like the VARIERA series, which is partly designed for kitchen cabinets—sometimes these boxes or inserts also fit BESTA drawers.
Have you already checked the exact measurements of your drawers? And are you looking for boxes for specific contents that have special requirements? That way, we could narrow down the search further.

Hello Doruk,
I understand your question well, especially since finding the right storage boxes can sometimes be frustrating. Regarding storage boxes for BESTA drawers, here are a few points I would recommend based on my own experience:
- Be sure to measure the internal dimensions of your drawers carefully. Height is particularly important, as fairly shallow drawers often cause problems.
- IKEA boxes like those from the SUNNERSTA series can fit in some cases but are better suited for small items.
- There are also third-party suppliers offering flexible, customizable inserts that you can cut to size.
- It is important that the boxes are not too tall; otherwise, the drawers won’t close properly.
If you want, I can also share some manufacturers and brands I have tested. It would also be helpful to know whether you are looking for storage for living areas or more for office supplies, as this affects the choice.
I’m happy to assist further if you provide more information.

Does anyone know if there are already proven recommendations or products that work particularly well?I think the whole hype around "perfect" storage boxes for IKEA furniture is exaggerated. Sure, some dimensions might fit better than others, but in the end, it's much more practical to be creative yourself and not have unrealistic expectations. No one really expects IKEA product lines and accessories to fit together perfectly – companies want to sell, not customize. So it’s better to adapt individually and not waste too much time searching for the supposedly perfect product.
