Hello everyone, I have been having issues with my Ikea Pax wardrobe for some time now, specifically with the hinged doors. The doors no longer seem to align properly and hang unevenly, making it difficult to open and close them. I have already tried tightening the hinges, but the problem persists. My question is: How exactly do you fix sagging doors on an Ikea Pax wardrobe to realign them neatly without damaging the door or the wardrobe frame? Are there any special adjustment screws or techniques that I should keep in mind? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hey, I’m very familiar with the problem of misaligned doors – those slightly annoying tilt troublemakers! 😄 With Ikea Pax wardrobes, a targeted adjustment of the hinges usually helps, as they often offer three adjustment options: vertical, horizontal, and depth. It’s important to use the correct screw for each direction. Also, check if the door might be getting “pressed flat” due to incorrect installation or strain. If it gets tricky, gently turn the metal hinges instead of using brute force. Good luck!

Exactly, that is the key approach. Specifically, I recommend the following procedure:

- First, loosen the horizontal screws to align the door sideways.
- Then adjust the vertical screws to correct the door height.
- After that, check if the door is flush with the frame. If not, use the depth adjustment screws to ensure the door sits properly in the plane.

It should be noted that Ikea Pax hinges also have a release mechanism for removing and rehanging the doors, which makes it easier to correct their position. I also recommend inspecting the hinges before adjustment to see if they are loose or damaged, as wear and tear is often the cause of misaligned doors.

One often overlooked point: if the cabinet frames or the floor are not perfectly level, this can affect the alignment of the doors.

Adjust door hinges using a Phillips screwdriver: check lateral, vertical, and depth alignment. Replace damaged hinges. Place the cabinet on a level surface.

That is a very good point. My Pax wardrobe is actually placed on laminate flooring that has slightly sagged on one side. Can that really have such a significant impact on the door alignment? If so, what would be the best approach – just leveling the floor or is it better to shim under the wardrobe itself?

Yes, absolutely. Especially for framed wardrobes like the Pax, a level surface is essential. Even minor unevenness can cause the doors to stick or sag.

- First, use a spirit level to identify where the uneven spots are.
- Then, level the wardrobe using adjustable feet or wooden shims to ensure a stable and horizontal position.
- Alternatively, you can also level the floor if that is feasible.

Simply adjusting the door will only fix the problem temporarily if the floor remains uneven.
