Hello everyone,

I am currently considering how to best equip my IKEA PAX wardrobes with storage boxes. The PAX series offers quite a bit of flexibility for interior organization, but I specifically want to know: Which IKEA storage boxes fit best for the PAX wardrobes, especially regarding dimensions, handling, and material properties? I am particularly interested in boxes that integrate well inside the wardrobes, are sturdy, and have a visually compatible look, but of course, practical usability (e.g., stackability, grip options) is also important.

Does anyone have experience with the different IKEA storage boxes for PAX? Which models would you recommend? And are there perhaps ideas that are not immediately obvious, such as boxes that are not specifically marketed as PAX accessories but are optimally compatible?

Thank you very much for your tips and advice!

Regarding suitable IKEA storage boxes for the PAX system, the following can be summarized:

- The "SKUBB" boxes are the most suitable. They are flexible, made from breathable material, available in various sizes, and fit well inside PAX interiors.
- The fabric "DRÖNA" boxes are also compatible and are known for their ease of use; they are lightweight and easy to remove.
- For a more durable option, plastic "SAMLA" boxes are available. These are stackable and sealable, but measurements should be taken before purchase since PAX wardrobes come in different depths.

It is important to check the dimensions: standard PAX shelf depths are usually 35 cm (14 inches) or 58 cm (23 inches). The boxes should be slightly smaller to allow easy removal. The boxes mentioned are generally the best choice as they efficiently utilize storage space and are easy to clean.

I would like to add some details regarding their use:

1. SKUBB boxes: These are very popular because they are lightweight, stack well, and are breathable. They fit particularly well in the larger PAX wardrobes with a depth of 58 cm (23 inches). Tip: the tall version works well for sweaters or deeper compartments.

2. DRÖNA boxes: Since they are made of fabric, they need some space to keep their shape and have no rigid bottom panels – this can be a disadvantage when holding heavy items. Advantage: they are inexpensive and visually match the white PAX system.

3. SAMLA boxes: These are ideal for bulky items that need protection (e.g., seasonal clothing, accessories) because they are stackable and come with lids. Their hard surface is washable and durable. However, their depth can be an issue in PAX wardrobes with 35 cm (14 inches), where only the smaller versions fit.

4. Alternatives: Some also use the VARIERA boxes (plastic), which are somewhat shallower and suitable for smaller items. It is important to know the exact internal dimensions of the respective PAX wardrobe before purchasing to avoid disappointment.

In summary, I recommend measuring the internal dimensions precisely beforehand, then choosing the boxes that fit best based on those measurements, paying attention to material and intended use.

I can’t fully agree with that. The SKUBB boxes seem too unstable to me, especially if you want to store heavier clothes or pack a lot inside. They quickly lose their shape, making stacking difficult.

I agree here; the SAMLA boxes are sturdy and robust, but they are quite visible – which not everyone likes. Especially if you want a neat, calm look in your PAX wardrobe, they’re not ideal.

I think a combination works best: SKUBB or DRÖNA for everyday access, SAMLA for storage. But many also look beyond IKEA when it comes to PAX compatibility – sometimes you can find better quality there.

What do you think?

Interesting approach, but what exactly is this recommendation based on? Are there clear criteria behind it or is it just personal experience?

In reality, SKUBB boxes are mainly designed for lighter contents due to their material and construction. They are not particularly sturdy, that’s true.

However, I wonder: if robustness and durability are desired, SAMLA boxes are recommended by many user reports, but their fit in PAX units is often an issue, especially with the 35 cm (14 inches) depth.

Has anyone ever checked which box dimensions work best for the different PAX depths, or are these mostly practical experience? A detailed and as precise as possible overview could provide new insights and help avoid wrong purchases.

Does anyone here have a comparative chart or tested measurements that indicate which boxes are truly ideal for the various PAX options?
