Hello everyone, I am currently facing an issue with an Ikea Brimnes cabinet: the back panel doesn’t fit properly on my new sideboard. More precisely, it is either too large or, due to the groove and the way it is fastened, not compatible, so I can’t attach it securely or it ends up crooked in an awkward way. Has anyone had experience with this and can suggest what to do in such a case? What solutions have proven effective when the back panel of the Brimnes model doesn’t fit? I would really appreciate any tips, especially regarding dimensions, alternatives, or possible minor modifications. Thanks!
Interesting question. My theory is that Ikea deliberately designs their products to be less flexible so that people need to buy additional parts or remodel more often, instead of simply repairing them with spare parts. The "not fitting" almost seems like a feature. Here’s a practical idea — maybe the back panel isn't actually the right one for your specific cabinet model? It’s definitely worth double-checking if the part number matches exactly.
Hello Bije9, I am familiar with the issue with Ikea back panels: it is usually caused by the groove where the back panel fits not being properly sized for your model’s back panel dimensions. Try adjusting the panel slightly. If the back panel is too large, you can carefully trim it with a utility knife. It is important to proceed evenly to maintain stability. Also, pay attention to the material – thicker boards do not tolerate harsh cuts without splitting.
