Hello,

this is a new build.

The granny flat is intended for a parent, so a connecting door is planned. There will also be a floor-to-ceiling window (in the dining/kitchen/living area) to provide direct access to the garden.
How could this be designed differently to allow for a larger kitchen (L-shaped)?

The main terrace is on the ground floor, accessible from the kitchen and dining room (not yet shown).
The washing machine will be located on the ground floor in the storage room.
How can the cloakroom be arranged?

Upstairs, Child 2 and the master bedroom will be swapped.
The bay window room is intended more as a reading room or something similar.

Oh yes, in our opinion, there is no other way to solve the front door situation. We want to go directly from the garage into the house...

I think the solution with the front door is not bad at all. To create a larger hallway, you could possibly move the wall to the kitchen by a few centimeters, so that it aligns with the exterior wall by the front door. This way, you would definitely have a nice wide hallway and also space for an additional closet or coat rack between the entrance to the kitchen and the living room.

I think the granny flat is fine. It’s a two-room apartment, suitable for one or two people. Absolutely sufficient.

However, the utility room is too difficult to access from the main house. I would probably plan a separate one on the ground floor or first floor.

The ground floor is nice to me. But the shower toilet is too small.

How should one imagine the 13 cm (5 inches) overhang of the upper floor above the ground floor?

Swap child 2 or with child 3 with the parents. It’s not very nice to have two children next to each other.

And the shower will probably be too dark. Without lighting, it won’t work well.

Hello Milkie,

what do you mean by a 13 cm (5 inch) overhang of the upper floor over the ground floor???

The utility room in the basement belongs to the granny flat. The washing machine will be in the storage room on the ground floor...

Your architect should have solutions for the mentioned issues 😉

I also find the accessory apartment quite decent and nice, especially if it gets the mentioned garden access. I would just make sure that all the doors are wide enough (accessible for elderly people 🙂)
