ᐅ Is decentralized mechanical ventilation really that expensive?

Hello everyone,

I have received a quote for the installation of Inventer fans throughout the entire house. The house is a semi-detached property with approximately 130 sqm (1,400 sq ft) of living space.

The total cost is around €10,500, which I find quite high. The semi-detached house consists of a basement (no fans planned here), ground floor, first floor, and attic.

Ground floor: 2x iV14v, 1x iV Twin, and 1x exhaust fan in the bathroom/shower, with separate control for the ground floor
First floor: 3x iV14v and 1 exhaust fan in the bathroom
Attic: 2x iV14v

I believe the first floor and attic share one control system, but I would need to double-check.

Is this price reasonable or too high? At this price, would it also be possible to install a central mechanical ventilation with heat recovery system?

I would appreciate your help – I really need support here. Thank you.

Best regards,
Robert

And now you have plastic around it.

So, is that bad?

Well. If we are talking about "breathability," it is certainly not the best. That's why I already mentioned above that it also depends on the wall construction.

Nevertheless, a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery has its pros and cons.
For example, we decided not to use one.

No standard wall construction breathes when built according to modern standards, which means it is airtight.
The myth of “breathing brick” is based on a flawed test setup and has been disproven. (Like iron and spinach…) Even the brick industry no longer promotes this idea.

Water vapor (“humidity”) can only be removed from the house by ventilation, since the building envelope is usually airtight.
If your builder says otherwise, I would get an independent architect, building expert, or someone similar to oversee the construction. The builder is confusing apples with oranges.

I personally have been living in a newly built semi-detached house for rent for 1 year now. It has a decentralized ventilation system. Feel free to ask for the brand via private message. I am very dissatisfied!

a) Noise level caused by the many openings in the exterior wall. The street noise sounds as if a window were open. Seriously.
b) Noise from the fans: because of the “switching” it is not monotonous, so you can’t ignore it. At 25% (lowest level) it is barely tolerable, at 100% it sounds like an old range hood.
c) Air exchange rate insufficient: In our bedroom there is no “fresh air” in the morning, and in the bathroom I always have to ventilate manually after showering to achieve a reasonably comfortable climate.
d) Filters must be cleaned constantly, and the ceramic elements also need to be vacuumed often. Very labor-intensive process! Filter replacement with a centralized system is much faster (according to coworkers, about 30 minutes once a year).
e) Due to the cross-ventilation principle, fresh air is supplied to the bathroom 50% of the time and expelled through the bedroom... Anyone can imagine what can drift over there. Not pleasant.

Oh, yes:
We have one fan in each bedroom and bathroom, two in the living/dining/kitchen area, and two in the attic. 155m² (1,670 ft²) according to the residential floor area regulation.

@sir: Please, if you have no idea,.....

Of course, fresh air is supplied to the bedroom and extracted in the bathroom!
No bad smells in the bedroom

With a decentralized ventilation system that switches direction on a timer, this can actually happen!

This is not the first time I wonder what kind of consulting and especially what type of system is behind such statements?
