ᐅ Is decentralized mechanical ventilation really that expensive?

Hello everyone,

I have received a quote for the installation of Inventer fans throughout the entire house. The house is a semi-detached property with approximately 130 sqm (1,400 sq ft) of living space.

The total cost is around €10,500, which I find quite high. The semi-detached house consists of a basement (no fans planned here), ground floor, first floor, and attic.

Ground floor: 2x iV14v, 1x iV Twin, and 1x exhaust fan in the bathroom/shower, with separate control for the ground floor
First floor: 3x iV14v and 1 exhaust fan in the bathroom
Attic: 2x iV14v

I believe the first floor and attic share one control system, but I would need to double-check.

Is this price reasonable or too high? At this price, would it also be possible to install a central mechanical ventilation with heat recovery system?

I would appreciate your help – I really need support here. Thank you.

Best regards,
Robert

Hello...

Well, a central mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery requires detailed planning, as the ducts run, for example, through the floor slab/screed and the walls. If the house is still being built with masonry, it is probably still possible to include the mechanical ventilation system in the plans. I would recommend contacting at least two ventilation contractors to check. Whether they can or want to take on the project on such short notice is another matter.

The ducts and air intake and exhaust vents are best integrated into the ceiling or floor from the start. The structural builder should be aware of this. It should also be checked structurally where and how everything can be installed.

Are you building with an architect? A full-service "worry-free" company? Using solid construction? Timber?

Let me guess: You told your builder that you will handle the mechanical ventilation system in the electrical installation?

We are building a solid semi-detached house with a developer. Owner participation is possible but may need to be coordinated with the developer in advance.

Our semi-detached house will have a full basement, but the controlled ventilation system with heat recovery will only operate on the ground floor, upper floor, and attic.

And who requested the quote for the controlled residential ventilation system? Was it you, your builder, or another company?

Who will ultimately handle the installation or oversee it?

Are you planning to install the controlled residential ventilation system yourself? In that case, the builder does not just "possibly" need to be informed, but definitely must be. At least if it is going to be a central system.

I requested a quote from the developer. I would prefer to have everything from a single source in order to have one point of contact if something does not work properly. The price includes the masonry work, electrical installation, delivery and installation of the fans with controllers. Additionally, an employee from Inventer will come to commission the system after installation.

Well, then you shouldn’t be surprised by the price. With a developer, special requests also come with extra costs.

Was only a mechanical ventilation system for indoor air requested, or specifically a decentralized one? There is no need to ask about a centralized system because that would be much more expensive.

And I’m not trying to imply anything, but given how long the offer took, I’m not that surprised anymore. You just hardly have time to request comparisons.
