Hello,

I want to renovate our bedroom, which is on the ground floor, and I am considering a ventilation system or an air conditioner.
The room is about 20 sqm (215 sq ft), and there will be a small wooden extension added.
This extension will be around 15 sqm (160 sq ft).
The house is an older building, and in summer it tends to get quite warm in the room, so I am thinking about how to keep it cool during the summer.

Until now, I have been opening the windows and the patio door at night or early in the morning when it cools down to lower the temperature.
Now I would like to automate this process.

I hope it’s clear what I want to do... ;-)

What would be a good solution for this?

Simply a fan that automatically turns on at night to bring in cool outside air?
An air conditioner?

What would be feasible?

The extension will have good insulation, but that might not be very useful because with three children and a dog running in and out through the open door during summer, it won’t be that simple.

Thanks and best regards, Lars

I agree. A portable air conditioner. This is probably the most affordable option.

Clearly both!

Because both serve completely different purposes...

I would have said the same, but then it’s really a matter of complete ventilation planning. Just ventilating one room isn’t very effective. And the main concern for the original poster is to keep their bedroom cool.

Hello and thank you for your replies!
Rübe has summed it up perfectly.

Cooling the bedroom while keeping energy consumption as low as possible.
Basically just for a few hot summer days. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be much more than that where we live.

Ventilation mainly just to get the room cooler.

It will probably be a ductless mini-split air conditioner.

Or maybe not?

Happy Easter
