ᐅ Is decentralized mechanical ventilation really that expensive?

Hello everyone,
I have received a quote for the installation of Inventer fans throughout the entire house. The house is a semi-detached property with approximately 130 sqm (1,400 sq ft) of living space.
The total cost is around €10,500, which I find quite high. The semi-detached house consists of a basement (no fans planned here), ground floor, first floor, and attic.
Ground floor: 2x iV14v, 1x iV Twin, and 1x exhaust fan in the bathroom/shower, with separate control for the ground floor
First floor: 3x iV14v and 1 exhaust fan in the bathroom
Attic: 2x iV14v
I believe the first floor and attic share one control system, but I would need to double-check.
Is this price reasonable or too high? At this price, would it also be possible to install a central mechanical ventilation with heat recovery system?
I would appreciate your help – I really need support here. Thank you.
Best regards,
Robert

A central controlled ventilation system with heat recovery (Zehnder Comfoair 350) cost us almost exactly €7,000 for 134sqm (1,442 sq ft) back in 2012. However, it is not installed in the basement, as this area is not yet regularly used as living space. If needed, two larger rooms in the basement will each be equipped with a decentralized unit later on.
When building a new house, the advantage is that supply and exhaust ducts can be installed in the screed and inside the walls, creating a consistent, comfortable climate throughout the house. Additionally, there are only two openings in the exterior walls. I am not concerned about the often-mentioned bacterial contamination of the ducts, since the first filter is located right after the air intake, and another one is installed before the heat exchanger. The exhaust vents also have filter bags, which of course need to be vacuumed or replaced regularly. From an energy efficiency standpoint, the central system is supposed to be more effective as well.
Therefore, for a new build, I would recommend a central controlled ventilation system with heat recovery—especially considering the difference in price.
Best regards

We are currently building and will be installing a decentralized ventilation system from Ventomaxx. It looks good, is the quietest on the market, and the price is great for us! Depending on the number of units, I estimate a maximum of 6,000€ (about $6,500) for self-installation. It’s not very difficult.
Just check the manufacturer’s website and, if interested, call in the morning and ask for Ms. Deppner.
Enjoy your build
Regards
Joe

Hi,
we will have a decentralized ventilation system from Seventilation installed.
Our quote is 5,800 Euro (without installation) and includes:
6 fans with heat recovery
2 exhaust fans for the bathrooms
2 exhaust fans for the bathroom and kitchen
2 controllers for the ground floor / upper floor

Small addition (could not finish the post yesterday due to an emergency with a crying toddler):
Considering the price mentioned to you, I also think it makes sense to get a quote for a central system.
You should not rush this decision, just like all others related to the house. After all, you will probably only build once.
