Hello,
we are currently in the final phase of our new build. After various issues, we are actually on a good path to complete it soon.
Unfortunately, the washing machine connection in the utility room, which is listed in the scope of work, was forgotten.
We noticed this and reported it immediately. The room is already fully tiled, painted, and the sink installed.
The general contractor will probably want to make the connection at the sink. Do we have to accept this, or can we insist on installing the connection inside the wall?
Best regards

Since the tiles are already installed, you just noticed this a bit late.

I wouldn’t put much effort into it now. Have a branch connection installed on the sink drain and drain it there. The existing 50mm (2 inch) or 75mm (3 inch) drain should easily handle this. In return, you can request a credit for the work not carried out – and I’d suggest a goodwill compensation of about €150 as well. Anything else is just unnecessary hassle without significant benefit.

For 150 euros, I would prefer the connection to be concealed within the wall. I wouldn't accept anything under 500.

We probably both can’t really judge this accurately without more information. The question is how much wall would need to be chiseled out, whether there would be restrictions on the placement of the washing machine, and so on. Only the original poster can weigh these factors for themselves.

Listen to what the general contractor suggests, and maybe they’ll propose more than you expect, precisely so you don’t have to make a big issue out of it now.

That is certainly the best idea for now. However, it is quite surprising that all the other tradespeople remained silent about it and we only noticed it ourselves.
