Good evening everyone,

We are currently planning the exterior design of our house and would appreciate advice from those with building experience 🙂

How did you approach the color scheme for the outside? For example, the roof tile color, window frames, front door, garage door, and so on?

There is always the option to choose RAL colors... Has anyone done this, or how did you coordinate your colors?

(PS: Our house will be white, and the tiles/windows/front door, etc., will be in a dark gray/light black tone...)

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Kind regards

I also wanted red/yellow/white. The compromise was red-white/white/base anthracite. Gray garage. It is, of course, simple. With a bit of yellow it would gain, but my wife doesn’t want it.
What kind of render is that?

I find this white-anthracite combination often looks quite boring in many cases. Sometimes it’s done really well, but it depends on the house type. For a townhouse, it can look very good, but for a one-and-a-half-story house, you can definitely go with something different. We have a red roof and white/beige plaster, which I find more lively and also more inviting.

Maybe adding some brick slips could complement it perfectly.

Well... I really like your taste! 😉

Maybe a green (British racing green) terrace railing as well? 😀

What about the windows?

We also struggled with this for a while, but it was clear that we wanted a fairly strong color. In the new development area, the usual color schemes prevail, which doesn’t really bother me.

From the original anthracite to later brown-beige, and at one point even wine red with a black roof... now it will be a ventilated, vertical wooden facade with a weathering stain, which frees me from the previous color drama. Now I just have to decide between the different shades of gray from Loriot... phew.

We found windows within the limited color options available for our model. At one point, we even tried a dark wine red in an animation, but that stood out too much; so it stays with a lively gray-brown 😀.

A simple front door is currently planned in dark red or possibly a kind of dove blue... if it doesn’t work out in the end, I have the advantage of mostly being inside the house, where we also want to do quite a bit of painting on the walls.

Of course, you should use color thoughtfully and deliberately, but out of fear not choosing any color wouldn’t be my approach. I’d be more frustrated if I wasn’t bold enough. If a color ends up being a bit too strong somewhere, I’d actually find that funny and would live with it better than the other way around.

I would only use a light glaze – otherwise, the facades develop a very lively color gradient over time due to washing out and natural weathering, which resembles a grown-out bleaching effect.

For me personally (!), I would probably go for a reddish roof and a yellowish facade. Windows in white.

Most likely, my husband and I will choose exactly this color combination as well. Also because, in my opinion, it looks friendly and inviting. White/anthracite feels more like industrial buildings to me.
