Good evening everyone,

We are currently planning the exterior design of our house and would appreciate advice from those with building experience 🙂

How did you approach the color scheme for the outside? For example, the roof tile color, window frames, front door, garage door, and so on?

There is always the option to choose RAL colors... Has anyone done this, or how did you coordinate your colors?

(PS: Our house will be white, and the tiles/windows/front door, etc., will be in a dark gray/light black tone...)

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Kind regards

And what the wife doesn’t want ... I feel the same way 😉

Maybe "yellow" means something different to women. Let’s try "apricot" or something like that.

What do you think, sweetheart, about a subtle yellow?.....And once the lockdown is over, we’ll go to Ikea together and then buy some shoes. Promise. ....Maybe something like that.

It’s a bit of a pity that the majority choose ‘trash bin’ gray – anthracite – with white/light colors.

In our development area, nine houses are already framed or at a more advanced stage. Of these, 100 percent are exactly white and anthracite, although the distribution varies slightly. 🙄

Color representation: on the left, colors named by women; on the right, shades used by men.

This was our decision-making process:
  • We looked at many other houses and visited references provided by our craftsmen.
  • We browsed magazines, online platforms, and the Grand Design series.
  • We considered what would suit the surroundings, the plot, and ourselves.

Our main ideas:
On one hand, we didn’t want to introduce something alien to the environment, and on the other hand, we wanted the functionality to be based solely on our wishes and ideas. It was clear that the elongated, simple shape with symmetrical elements should be apparent, but at the same time not appear too sleek or modern. The entrance area was meant to be welcoming and convey personality.

What the result would be was not clear at the beginning. We like it, it suits us and the location.

A process of choosing materials and colors takes time, involves uncertainties, and is reason for many discussions. Embracing this process is worthwhile. What comes out is better than simply following a “tip” or “what’s common practice today.”

Like something out of a textbook... 😎 🙂

I think you simply have to go “out into the world” to find inspiration.
