Good evening everyone,

We are currently planning the exterior design of our house and would appreciate advice from those with building experience 🙂

How did you approach the color scheme for the outside? For example, the roof tile color, window frames, front door, garage door, and so on?

There is always the option to choose RAL colors... Has anyone done this, or how did you coordinate your colors?

(PS: Our house will be white, and the tiles/windows/front door, etc., will be in a dark gray/light black tone...)

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Kind regards

Maybe you should consider whether you tend to be more adventurous or cautious. If you’re more adventurous, I would avoid typical new housing developments, where you’ll mostly find mainstream styles.

Personally, I would recommend being bolder and choosing a strong, vibrant color. In my opinion, a front door can be selected completely independently from the rest of the house. For example, yesterday while walking, I saw an orange front door, something I would never have thought of myself. But it actually looked really good.

Thanks for all the opinions 🙂

Yes, we are basically open to a "non-mainstream" combination...
But first, we need to come up with a cool color combination ;-)

I chose a dark gray RAL color according to my taste, since there were only seven RAL colors available. Honestly, I didn’t care much about the roof tiles as long as they were dark gray... everything else was available in RAL, so what?! We didn’t make a big deal out of it – it’s about our preference, not someone else’s.

I’m sure you probably have one or two color shades you like more than others, such as blue or red, for example.
I’ve seen really beautiful houses with a nice red or a cool blue... whatever it is, if you don’t have a preferred color shade, you could basically choose any.
Once you seriously decide on a color, you’ll find plenty of nice and suitable combinations online.
Of course, costs often play a role as well; I would personally prefer to spend more on the interior.

Front doors can always benefit from a different color, especially when windows are neutral white, gray, or wood-toned.
We often see unfinished buildings nearby with dark window frames and white window sashes: it looks extremely cheap. I don’t know what the builders were thinking.

Don’t make such a big deal out of it.
Take out a color fan deck, squint your eye, hold the fan deck up to the facade, and choose a color.
Then hope and pray that it fits.
