ElrymirHello everyone,
We are currently building a single-family house. In two weeks, all utility connections will be installed.
My question is about the internet connection, which I applied for through Telekom.
Now I have learned that another company is laying fiber optic cables in our street (Deutsche Glasfaser).
Does it make sense to cancel the Telekom order? That would only be a standard copper cable, or is it still needed?
Telekom charges 700€, while Deutsche Glasfaser does not charge any connection fees.
Thank you very much for your help!

Deutsche Glasfaser is also expected to be installed in our area. We have applied for both options and will take only the connection from the telecom provider and the free connection with a contract from Deutsche Glasfaser. The telecom costs were planned anyway, so we are getting fiber optic "free on top."
We prefer not to give up the copper cable just yet.

I have to admit that I can't currently answer from memory how competition works with fiber optic networks: who ensures basic service if the provider goes bankrupt; and does the network operator also have to offer its TAL (local loop) for rent to competitors?

For us, it’s an open network. Otherwise, we wouldn’t do it. Initially, there is a standard 2-year contract period, but after that, you can see what the market offers in your own region.
Here it is like this. New development area. The telecom company is providing fiber to the home. No cable providers are allowed. If you want telephone landline and DSL internet, you have to use the telecom company, which has secured exclusive rights for 10 years. If you want Vodafone, it is only possible via mobile LTE.
Providers like Einsundeins and others are not available either.
