Hello everyone,
We are currently building a single-family house. In two weeks, all utility connections will be installed.
My question is about the internet connection, which I applied for through Telekom.
Now I have learned that another company is laying fiber optic cables in our street (Deutsche Glasfaser).
Does it make sense to cancel the Telekom order? That would only be a standard copper cable, or is it still needed?
Telekom charges 700€, while Deutsche Glasfaser does not charge any connection fees.
Thank you very much for your help!

Cancel Telekom! Nowadays, 16 Mbit is officially considered insufficient. In a few years, you'll effectively be a digital underprivileged user.I expect modems like that will only be found in select pharmacies in five years.moHouse schrieb:
Sure... if Telekom and Deutsche Glasfaser each secure a monopoly on the lines over the next few years, you’ll be able to switch between the two every two years and save money.Who in their right mind would switch back from fiber optic to copper (16 Mbit!) just to save about ten dollars a month on the plan after paying 700 euros in connection fees?https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

No one. I actually said that in the very next sentence.
I think we agree that those 700 euros might as well be burned. At least then you’d have a nice little fire going...
I’m still waiting for arguments in favor of the 16 Mbps copper line from the telecom provider... For some, it’s a “no-brainer” to add it anyway. But it reminds me of the advice from another thread to install at least one coaxial outlet per room in new buildings...
I basically agree with moHouse. I might have just missed when the fiber optic connection is actually scheduled or whether the date is definite. These appointments tend to be postponed by some time. However, if the fiber optic connection is being installed at the same time, I would skip the copper line as well. You can definitely invest the 700 EUR more effectively elsewhere.

That tends to get delayed by some time.No one will be able to tell you for sure. We have already been living in the new development for three months; everything was finished. However, one component was still missing at the Telekom exchange, which left us without a connection for three months. Unfortunately, you can never be protected against something like that in advance.
