Hello everyone,

to those of you who have a pantry: what kind of shelving do you have inside? We wanted to put in the Ikea Boaxel shelving unit or the Ivar shelving, but due to the door they don’t quite fit. What alternatives are you using?

I find the solution from @tomtom79 very pragmatic; I would not assume any instability. Some people face budget pressure during construction. Using leftover materials like this is very clever, sustainable, and practical. Very appealing. Also, this is not exactly a highly visible area. So, a "like" from me.

Why is there no clarification from @Grantlhaua? Or was the question about depth or width too personal?

Instead of Billy with a depth of 28cm (11 inches), Ivar has a depth of 30cm (12 inches) but is the more practical system.

And I fully agree with hampshire, especially Ivar is super easy to customize. You can quickly have narrower shelves cut at the hardware store, which is how I filled the wall section in my storage room. Or a friend of mine trimmed a bit off the back legs at the bottom of the side panels because she had a 1cm (0.4 inch) deep and 8cm (3 inch) high baseboard there, but wanted the shelf to sit flush against the wall. Above all, there are now several inserts available for IVAR that can be very useful, and the system has been around for decades, so it integrates well.

Nevertheless, with Ivar, Pax, Billy, and others like them, you get those, in my opinion, annoying intermediate supports. With the rail system, the shelf is continuous and can be easily adjusted to any existing length.

But that’s up to everyone to decide. If I had a few Ivars left over, maybe they would have ended up in the pantry – but they all ended up in the basement...

It’s a storage room that nobody ever looks into.

Oh dear, oh dear, and it even gets likes for that. I don’t like having anything resembling a cluttered storage space in the house, so that means no basements or attics either. I prefer to have every area neat and tidy.

With Billy and Ivar, I assume you can still buy doors for them years later if you prefer cabinets instead, for dust protection or other reasons.
