ᐅ Have your home connected directly by the local internet provider?

We are now going to order the utility connections for our house. Netze-BW requires a multi-utility connection at our location.

Telecom costs a flat rate of €800 (about $870) – we are currently with them. However, I also wanted to have Unitymedia installed "just in case." At the moment, they charge €1600 (about $1740), without any discounts for signing a new contract or similar. The representative from the homeowners’ department suggested that we should have a conduit installed in case the price becomes more reasonable in the future.

Is this conduit automatically included when installing a multi-utility connection, or do I need to order it separately from the general contractor or civil engineer?

Hello,

depending on how tech-savvy you are, it’s fortunate that you have two lines available.
In case of a fault, your internal network will then be supplied with WAN through the second line.
If that is not important to you, I would only order the Telekom line and the conduit for future fiber optic installation.

See the original post: this is no longer available with Unitymedia. It was apparently discontinued in June this year.

They were just recently taken over by Vodafone, so quite a few changes can be expected in the near future.
From a technical perspective, I would also say you can probably skip the Telekom connection.
However, you would need to have the cable installed immediately.
In terms of cost, it would probably be the same as laying conduit now along with Telekom and then installing the cable into the house later (and cheaper).
Make sure to include the conduit for fiber optics as well. Could the cable connection actually be installed in that, too?

Hi,
I’m joining the conversation here.

The network provider is installing a "10mm microduct" when setting up the house connections. That seems quite small to me. Is it sufficient for a fiber optic upgrade?

That should be enough; our empty conduit for fiber optic cable is no larger either, but we have two of them. The fiber optic cable will be blown in later.

If you are installing glass, there is really no reason not to remove the outdated wiring beforehand.

That is why I also advocate switching to fiber optic cable right away and terminating the old telecom line. The technology is simply outdated.
