So, I'm starting a new topic here to avoid overloading the house pictures thread.

I find the sliding doors for ovens quite interesting – but do they really offer any added value? I was also surprised to read that ovens now seem to be adopting a feature I dislike in microwaves: instead of setting temperature and possibly time, you input the "dimensions" of the food?! What is that supposed to achieve?! Personally, I think it’s terrible.

@ruppsn
I completely agree with you.

I generally find an iPhone (or a similar type of smartphone) too expensive. But I still have one. A mobile phone has become a constant companion in daily life, used several times a day – at least by me. That’s why it needs to work reliably. I also fully understand if someone doesn’t need it (often) and therefore only has a simple and affordable phone. Then there are no debates between smartphone users and those who don’t have one… strangely enough.

For me, cooking is still something that involves feeling. Yes, even when a good knife cuts something – I have the tool in my hand and can feel the food being chopped. However, I do use a food processor for my hummus, but I mash avocado with a fork.
I admit that the timing of work steps is unfamiliar to me in a private setting; I gladly leave that to trained chefs in professional kitchens.

Regarding the price-to-value ratio: I think I’m stubborn about this, I’ll be honest. I could afford many things I don’t have. But if I don’t see the value for the price, I look for an alternative or accept that I might go without something a few times per year. Ultimately, the Thermomix is still a device that can do many things, but none of them perfectly.

And one more thing: personally, for a good meal, I would focus more on atmosphere, authenticity, and simplicity rather than technology. So I would rather buy tahini and start the meal by chopping ingredients by hand.

But “good food” means different things to different people.

Not anymore. I clearly remember times when these debates were going on in a very similar way. Or, a few years before that, whether to have a mobile phone or not. Perhaps because (at least in my generation) it has become almost taken for granted that everyone owns a smartphone. The remaining critics have probably given up—and on the other hand, it’s such a common item now that no one tries to convert others. People don’t usually talk about how great the car as an invention is—at most, they talk about what cool new features their own new car has (I annoyed people a lot with self-dimming rearview mirrors ) or, when needed, why one brand is better than another.

@ypg From my perspective, there is nothing to add. Full agreement.

Not any better than the nonsense from the followers, by the way.

Is there anyone who can assess these things sensibly without marketing? It can’t be that hard...

What is there to evaluate? This thing replaces a pot and a magic wand. You already have a stove anyway. And using a knife to “knead” yeast dough is nothing short of daily blasphemy. I’ll better refrain from the coffee topic; that won’t end well...

I better stay out of the coffee discussion, it never ends well...

Just don’t argue with a chemist about why that makes sense.

By the way, the result is a brewed coffee that you can’t distinguish from one made with a pour-over filter—if you have adjusted everything just as precisely. The only difference is that you can make much more at once.

Well. Nevertheless, both yeast and sourdough breads turn out exactly as they should. They don’t seem to care one bit whether they were blasphemously kneaded...

Uh... no! But that has already been explained enough.

When kneading by hand, we're once again in the category of producing something that makes you happy. It can be compared to chopping wood.
