Hello everyone,

Does anyone have experience with the following fingerprint scanner for our front door:

ENTRAsys by Sommer

We plan to install the ENTRAsys system by Sommer on our front door. I’m wondering how secure such a system is, since it transmits data wirelessly. According to the manufacturer, it offers the highest security because it is encrypted using a technology called Somloq Rollingcode.

Could someone provide information on:
1. Recognition rate / reliability of this or other fingerprint systems
2. Security (it is transmitted wirelessly with Somloq Rollingcode encryption)
3. What exactly is a Somloq Rollingcode?

Thank you very much

Somloq is a common rolling code system, similar to those used in car keys. It uses 66-bit encryption, and each code is used only once.

However, Somloq2 is already available on the market with 128-bit encryption, so there must have been a need for an update at some point, for whatever reason.

It is never secure; I would not recommend it. Data transmitted via radio signals can always be intercepted!

Has anyone installed this system (ENTRAsys FD by Sommer) and can share some experience regarding its reliability?

What about Ekey, can anyone else share their experience?

Reliability, general recognition rate, recognition rate with wet fingers, recognition rate with children, ... ???

I will be installing Ekey in my home. A friend of mine has already installed it, and it works well for him. However, I don’t have personal experience with it yet.
ENTRAsys discouraged me from installing it because of the wireless transmission. Especially since the power supply cables are already installed in the door. But I don’t understand why the data then needs to be transmitted wirelessly. That said, it’s probably not any less secure. At least nowadays, I have never heard of burglars hacking front doors via wireless signals. Although this is frequently reported with cars.
