Powerman0130 May 2018 17:54Hello everyone,
As already mentioned in the thread, this is about the conversion/renovation of the attic.
Since I am still at the very beginning of the project, I wanted to gather some information first.
About the house:
Two-family house built in 1975 (continuously modernized, except for the roof)
Footprint 12.50 m x 10.50 m (41 feet x 34 feet)
Roof currently covered with corrugated sheets, no roof insulation (insulation consists of about 5 cm (2 inches) thick panels laid on the concrete slab)
Floor in raw condition (concrete slab, without screed, no water or electrical lines)
Due to family growth, additional living space is needed by converting the attic.
The attic will include 1 master bedroom, 2 children’s bedrooms, 1 toilet, and a storage room.
What I am particularly interested in:
Two appointments for site inspections are arranged, but they will take place a bit later since I am only home on weekends due to work.
Of course, I don’t want to be completely unprepared for these appointments.
I understand that exact cost estimates are difficult here, but at least a rough range.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Stephan

What I am particularly interested in:
- Reusing old roof truss elements? (Roof is watertight and all beams are in good condition)
- Solid walls or drywall for the rooms?
- Costs for completely insulated roof structure, the two children’s rooms should have dormers, otherwise only standard roof windows (2 units), glazed tiles?
- Is funding possible/useful?

0. Is what you are able to do actually allowed?
Does the building volume / floor area ratio permit this roof expansion?
Are there any supports included — if so, can they remain in place, meaning are they "integrable" rather than obstructive?
Drywall is preferred, as it is simpler structurally and easier to build, especially since the roof currently carries the load without the room walls.
Do you mean dormers or cross gables?
It is possible. Roof expansions, as an alternative to new land development, are sometimes supported. Roof modernization related to thermal insulation can also be eligible for funding.

Powerman0130 May 2018 18:29Hello 11ant,
thank you for your reply.
The children’s rooms will have dormers (I already updated this shortly after starting the thread).
The roof structure has supports that could also be integrated.
During the construction of the house/roof structure, future use of the attic as living space was already planned, and the supports were adjusted accordingly.
The floor area ratio/building coverage ratio should not be an issue, as the plot of land is 1200 m2 (12917 sq ft) in size.
