Hello everyone,

We would like to hear your opinions as well as the pros and cons. Would you build the garage at the same time as the house, or would you prefer to add it later and build just the house initially?
We are currently undecided whether to include the garage in the original order or handle it later.

What are your experiences, or do you have any special tips or considerations that should be taken into account?

Thank you very much for your help.

We decided to build the garage at the same time. Solid construction (Poroton). 9 meters (30 feet) long, 4.5 meters (15 feet) wide, and 6 meters (20 feet) wide at the back (shed); so an L-shape. With access to the house (utility room).

It is supposed to cost €31,000 (including everything). A proud price, but I’m afraid I’ll regret not having done it in 5 years.

I want a proper brick-faced garage with direct access to the house, and since you’re at it, you might as well do everything at once. A prefabricated garage can also be installed as a whole unit two years later.

We are currently in the planning phase as well. Ideas and suggestions are coming up, such as removing the garage for now. However, we are very critical about this. For us, it’s all part of one process. Especially since our double garage is connected to the house and the foundation/substructure builders, plasterers, scaffolders, etc. will have to come anyway.

For garages with direct access to the house or that are connected, the question of whether now or later would not even arise for me...

@Mycraft is absolutely right.
Anyone planning a direct access from the garage to the house should definitely have the garage built right away. Just imagine the unnecessary extra effort involved if the garage is added later in such a setup.

There should be no direct access to the house from the garage. We also think it makes more sense to have it done at the same time. However, we wanted to hear other opinions, since sometimes you simply don’t think about certain things, or others with experience can offer helpful advice. You are right :P
