Hello everyone,
We would like to hear your opinions as well as the pros and cons. Would you build the garage at the same time as the house, or would you prefer to add it later and build just the house initially?
We are currently undecided whether to include the garage in the original order or handle it later.
What are your experiences, or do you have any special tips or considerations that should be taken into account?
Thank you very much for your help.

Hello Thomas,
I think it partly depends on the construction method.
Are you building with solid masonry or a timber frame?
Do you want a solid masonry garage or a prefab garage?
We built solidly with a solid garage. We had the garage built at the same time as the house. The garage has a flat roof, which was poured together with the ground floor slab of the house. The electrical distribution was planned from the start. Water and especially wastewater connections were taken into account as well. There was no need to set up a separate construction site.
Of course, it’s a bit different if you have a prefab garage installed with a crane.

Even for a prefabricated garage, you need a foundation, electrical connection, water supply, and drainage connection...
The actual installation is certainly faster than the conventional construction of a garage, but in my opinion, the preparations hardly differ from those of a brick-built garage.

Dirk

The installation itself is of course faster than building a conventional garage, but in my opinion, the preparations hardly differ from those of a masonry garage. That is true as well.
Let me ask the other way around: If the garage still fits within the budget, why wait?

Bieber08157 Mar 2016 12:58When I move in, I want to enter the house with dry and clean feet, and I need space for the bicycles. That’s why the garage (and the necessary paving work) will be done right away. It won’t be cheaper to do it later either.
I mentioned my carport only as an example; I would do the same with a garage and only build it once everything else that is usually more important has been completed. But it’s your build, and I guess you wanted to hear some opinions... though it seems the decision has already been made.
We should have done it right away; now I have to search again and request new quotes. Then everyone wants an appointment to inspect the construction site, which also takes time.
And you need a crane again
+ a concrete pump also costs money again
Tangled up, and so on.
In the end, if the money is there, why not.
I now have 3 quotes and will have a 40m (130 feet) long wall built.
