Hello everyone,

I am interested in which devices you currently use on your LAN/WLAN and what, in your opinion, will be common in homes/rooms in the future—perhaps things I haven’t even considered yet. Feel free to relate it to specific rooms or floors.

As an example, take the washing machine, which in the future might also be connected via LAN/WLAN.

I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I’m just wondering what you actually do with all the extra time gained from this kind of optimization. I would miss the simple act of doing things myself. Turning it on, waiting, checking occasionally... even with other devices. It actually bothers me when the roller blind goes down just because it was programmed that way, since my feelings vary day by day. Today the light bothers me, tomorrow it’s too dim. Too much automation feels more like a limitation or even control. I wouldn’t know why I should replace well-placed light switches. Sometimes I see this as an obsession with optimization, and I find @Mycraft’s description of the "first phase" quite fitting.

I like my Wi-Fi washing machine. I can start it from work, and it automatically draws detergent from cartridges. I just have to remember to put the laundry inside. However, I wouldn't have bought the machine solely because of this Wi-Fi feature. It's a nice gadget.
I find smart refrigerators interesting. Since I have a built-in fridge, I haven't really looked into their actual benefits yet.

As little as possible, but as much as necessary. In fact, we only have the TV connected via LAN; everything else is wireless. That’s why I’m not in favor of having network sockets in every room.

Since Wi-Fi can connect almost unlimited devices, the question isn’t really important. You just need good coverage throughout the house, which can be achieved quite well with mesh systems and similar solutions.

You’re making me feel like my life might still have some meaning without all of this... oops... I think the washing machine is arguing with the refrigerator right now. I’ll offer them some in-house mediation.

What I forgot to mention is landline telephony, if it is still used at all. Either an IP phone is connected to the network or an IP DECT base station is used if the router does not support it.

So, in our case, anything that can’t move on its own or can only be moved with a lot of effort is connected via LAN cable.

The rest is on Wi-Fi.

Has a robot vacuum cleaner been mentioned yet?
I also have countless Shelly devices connected via Wi-Fi.
