Hello everyone, I have been using a MALM dresser from IKEA for a while and have noticed issues with the drawer slides on some of the drawers. The drawers don’t always glide smoothly, they can stick, or sometimes come off their tracks. I understand that there are metal or roller slides, but why do Malm models seem to have these slide issues so often? Are there any design weaknesses or material problems causing this? Oh yes, I’m very familiar with this topic! My bottom drawer used to stick all the time, but after I completely removed the sliding rails and thoroughly cleaned them – wow, what a difference! :-)
Then I adjusted everything very precisely so the drawer would properly “lock” into place. Now everything runs really smoothly! Just taking the time for this is definitely worth it!

As an alternative, there are third-party suppliers with compatible drawer runners that tend to be more durable and able to carry heavier loads. Replacing the original with a higher-quality full-extension runner can significantly extend the lifespan and improve functionality.
However, this upgrade requires at least some DIY skills and may involve drilling new holes.
