Hello everyone, I recently bought some MALM furniture from IKEA, especially dressers and nightstands. Now I’m wondering which spare parts for MALM furniture are commonly needed or useful in everyday life if something stops working properly or breaks. I’m particularly interested in practical experience and typical weak points that can be fixed relatively easily and affordably with spare parts. Are there often issues with drawer slides, handles, or is it more about small parts like screws and connectors? I’d appreciate it if you could share your experiences and tips!

Most of the time, it is the drawer slides that need to be readjusted or replaced after a while. Additionally, screws that become loose or stuck are common reasons for replacement parts. Handles rarely break.

Hey, I can definitely confirm that! 🙂 I once had a MALM chest of drawers where the drawer slides sagged after a few years. Fortunately, replacement was straightforward – just order new slides and install them! Now everything works like on the very first day :-)

From my experience and based on various user reports, it is clear that the metal drawer slides or runners in MALM furniture are particularly susceptible. These components can wear out or bend over time, leading to difficult operation. Another issue involves the plastic stoppers or dampers in the drawers, which can break or become loose. Small connectors such as screws or dowels are important but tend to fail less frequently, as they are usually tightened properly during assembly. Handles made of plastic or metal are generally sturdy and rarely cause problems.

Thank you for the quick responses! The information about the guide rails and dampers is interesting. How about spare parts availability? Are these components sold directly by IKEA, or do you have to rely on third-party suppliers? Are there any differences in MALM models from different production years or sizes that affect the availability of spare parts?

IKEA officially offers replacement parts for MALM furniture, but the availability is not always complete and may be limited in time. Runner rails and dampers are usually part of the standard range, and screws and small components are often available as well. However, there are differences between various model versions and production years: older versions sometimes differ in dimensions and components, which can affect compatibility. Third-party suppliers often offer compatible rails at lower prices, but quality can vary. Therefore, it is advisable to carefully check the model number and measurements before purchasing.
