Pinferdina20 Sep 2021 14:03Hello everyone,
I am planning a larger event soon and am considering using the KALLAX shelves from IKEA as temporary furniture. Therefore, I would like to know: Who among you uses KALLAX as temporary furniture for events? I am especially interested in how flexible this system is in terms of assembly and disassembly, what experiences you have had regarding its stability when used at different locations, and whether it is suitable for various purposes such as seating, display surfaces, or storage at events.
Perhaps there are also creative ideas on how to make it functional and visually appealing, including suggestions for additional accessories or modifications. I look forward to your feedback and tips, as I am thinking about using KALLAX as mobile event furniture for a year.

It’s fantastic that you want to use KALLAX for your event! 🙂 I recently used it for a small pop-up exhibition and was really impressed by its flexibility.
Setting up and taking down is super fast, the individual units are lightweight yet sturdy. I even used them as seating by placing cushions on top, which was very well received! They also work great as display surfaces, especially if you want to showcase flyers or products.
Tip: Get a few nice boxes as inserts—this not only looks neat but also helps you hide cables or other small items effectively. Definitely do a few trial runs assembling it, so everything goes smoothly!
Good luck with your project—you’ve got this! 🙂

Using KALLAX shelves as temporary furniture at events is practical for several reasons. First, the modular system offers high versatility through its 33x33cm (13x13 inch) compartments, suitable for various uses such as storage, base elements for seating, or surfaces for placing items. The material and construction provide adequate stability for typical loads in event settings, as confirmed by many users’ experiences.
Second, the simple assembly with plug-in connections and no need for tools allows for quick and easy handling, minimizing logistical effort.
As a useful addition, combining KALLAX with optional insert boxes and cushions has proven effective, especially to ensure seating functions are safe and comfortable. Decorative films or covers can also be used to adapt the visual appearance to the event theme.
Recommendation: Do not exceed the maximum load height, and plan additional stabilizations for heavier loads. For mobile use, transport carts or cases are helpful for secure storage.

Using KALLAX shelves as temporary furniture at events makes sense for several reasons.I agree, I also use KALLAX for small events. Easy to assemble, and lightweight for transport.
Just be careful with moisture, otherwise the boards will swell.

Be cautious only with moisture, otherwise the panels will swell.Exactly! 🙂 Same happened to me at an outdoor event; protecting the cover with plastic foil helped!

how flexible this system is regarding assembly and disassemblySure, very flexible! I managed it alone in two hours at an event with eight modules. Give it a try, it’s fun and really practical!
