Hello everyone,

We are looking for an IP camera for our driveway and entrance area. The Dahua 5442 series sounds very promising. Therefore, I have planned an IP-B5442E-ZE for the driveway area. It will be mounted in a corner at about 2.50m (8 feet) height and should cover the driveway at a 90° angle. The range required is only 10m (33 feet). Is the bullet shape suitable for this, or would an eyeball model be better?

The entrance area is much more complex. Here, at least 180° need to be covered. In addition, there are several steps leading down quite a bit. The area behind the house should also be visible if possible. Is the IPC-HDPW5442G-Z suitable for this? Or how would you best cover this area? Unfortunately, I have only installed Simplex CAT cable as you can see in the photo.

How many cameras and what resolution? With motion detection, the 218+ quickly struggles if other tasks are running on it at the same time.

... and don’t forget the licenses for the cameras. Two are included, each additional one costs a one-time fee of 50€.

For now, two cameras with 4MP (megapixels) each. In the medium term, 4 to 8 more will be added, then the 218+ will be replaced and only used as a backup or for documents, photos, videos, etc. The budget is currently limited because my partner is on parental leave, so some monthly income is missing. Still, I believe the foundation is solid, and as they say, appetite comes while eating.

With two items, photos, videos, etc., no problem. Even with four items, it’s still fine (as long as you don’t run them at 25fps).

In the worst case, upgrade the RAM. As long as no virtualization is running, that’s more than enough. Motion detection in the camera frees up additional resources.

Hello, we are also planning to install a camera surveillance system.
For this, we have prepared LAN and 230V power outlets at four locations around the house.
Are there any recommended providers for end users? To be honest, I don’t understand 50% of the technical terms in this thread.
