Hello everyone,
We are looking for an IP camera for our driveway and entrance area. The Dahua 5442 series sounds very promising. Therefore, I have planned an IP-B5442E-ZE for the driveway area. It will be mounted in a corner at about 2.50m (8 feet) height and should cover the driveway at a 90° angle. The range required is only 10m (33 feet). Is the bullet shape suitable for this, or would an eyeball model be better?

The entrance area is much more complex. Here, at least 180° need to be covered. In addition, there are several steps leading down quite a bit. The area behind the house should also be visible if possible. Is the IPC-HDPW5442G-Z suitable for this? Or how would you best cover this area? Unfortunately, I have only installed Simplex CAT cable as you can see in the photo.

Provide more details and we can help you.
The solution with Synology is very convenient. Especially since you can also use the NAS as your own cloud, media server, storage, photo station, and so on.
There are many guides available online for this.
Anyone with some technical knowledge can manage it.
What kind of internet connection will you have?

What kind of internet connection will you have? What kind of details are needed to be more precise?
We will have fiber optic with 250/500 Mbps.
Take a look at the Dahua cameras. You can find some information about them in the KNX User Forum. The price-performance ratio is said to be extremely good. Of course, they are not high-end. The price should also be within your range. I chose the 5442 series. They come in all kinds of designs and focal lengths...
As @rick2018 writes, add a NAS and so on, and that should be enough to get started experimenting.

The simplest approach is to have a plan showing the camera positions, the height at which they will be installed, and the area to be monitored.
Fiber optic from the telecom provider? The question is whether you get native Dual Stack, meaning a public IPv4 address. That’s the only way it really works well (remote access via VPN or directly to the NAS, cameras, Photo Station...). Alternatively, you can use Synology’s (slow) relay server or set up a port mapper.

The external network should be separated, and the clients should be authenticated using certificates. Which switch would you recommend for this? I am looking for a 24-port switch.
