I am currently planning to assemble an Ikea BESTÅ furniture system and am looking for the most efficient list of tools to complete the assembly quickly and correctly. I am especially interested in which tools, based on your experience, are absolutely essential to avoid mistakes and prevent the process from taking longer than necessary. Are there any specific tools you would recommend, or tips on how to supplement the included hardware? Maybe also suggestions on the best way to organize the assembly of the numerous connecting fittings? I would greatly appreciate any advice based on practical experience.

Summary of essential tools for the correct and time-efficient assembly of IKEA BESTÅ:

- Cordless drill/driver with appropriate bits (4 mm Allen, PH2 Phillips)
- Manual Allen keys for fine adjustments
- Angle ruler for proper alignment of components
- Rubber mallet for dowels to prevent surface damage
- Sorting accessories for small parts
- Optional depth stop attachment for the cordless drill/driver

Regarding the work process, I recommend:
- Carefully inspect all parts before starting assembly
- Strictly follow the steps in the assembly instructions
- Tighten screws by hand initially, then fully tighten with tools
- Avoid overtightening and misalignment through intermediate checks

Using a torque limiter or torque wrench increases precision and significantly reduces material damage.

Personally, I use a Bosch Professional cordless screwdriver because it allows very precise torque adjustment, and the depth stop works perfectly right away without any tweaking.

The setting is usually stepless—you simply set the maximum tightening torque. Once the screw meets resistance, the driver stops. If you’re looking for something more affordable, Einhell or Makita also offer good budget-friendly models with depth stops.

One more tip: Don’t let the screw slip or squeak, as this usually means the bit isn’t seated properly. This can increase the chance of errors when driving screws.

A cordless screwdriver with depth stop, an Allen key, a Phillips screwdriver, and a rubber mallet are sufficient. Nothing more is needed.

I would also recommend thoroughly cleaning the wood surfaces before assembly, as this improves the bonding strength of the joints and reduces the need for adjustments.

Otherwise, as long as the tools are ready and the parts are organized, nothing will stand in the way of a smooth and efficient assembly.

If you want to complete the construction as quickly as possible, a cordless screwdriver with a depth stop is your best friend. The rest is just extras.

I’m planning to do the construction mostly on my own

Me too, mostly, and having a sturdy work surface really helps. It’s often underestimated! You can position the panels more easily and don’t have to bend over constantly.

Another thing I thought of: In tight spots, a handy tool like a Spax extension or a slim bit holder works wonders. Otherwise, you often can’t reach those areas.
