Hello everyone, I am planning to install several Ikea Metod wall cabinets in my kitchen and am unsure which screws I need exactly. I am particularly concerned about the correct dimensions, materials, and possibly the appropriate type of screws to ensure the cabinets are safely and securely mounted on the wall. The walls are concrete, and I definitely want to use the proper screws recommended for the Metod cabinet system. Is there anything specific to consider when mounting Ikea Metod wall cabinets? What screw diameters, lengths, and materials are advisable? Thanks in advance for your expert advice!

For mounting Ikea Metod wall cabinets on concrete walls, anchors and screws with a diameter of 6 mm (0.24 inches) are generally recommended. The screws should be at least 70 mm (2.75 inches) long, preferably 6 x 70 mm (0.24 x 2.75 inches) chipboard screws with partial threading.

- Screw type: chipboard screws or screws that provide good hold in anchors
- Screw length: at least 70 mm (2.75 inches) to securely hold through the anchor and cabinet frame
- Anchor type: heavy-duty anchors suitable for drill holes of 6–8 mm (0.24–0.31 inches) in concrete

Metod wall cabinets have pre-drilled holes on the back, which are typically designed for 4–6 mm (0.16–0.24 inches) screws. Using 6 mm (0.24 inches) screws ensures a safe fit. It is also important that the weight of the cabinets is distributed across multiple fixing points.

I would like to add to the detailed information provided by RETRAVIS:

Ikea usually supplies dowels and screws, but these are often not ideal for concrete walls. So, if you want to be on the safe side, you should use:

- 6 mm (1/4 inch) dowels (e.g., universal dowels or heavy-duty anchors)
- 6x70 mm (1/4 x 2 3/4 inch) particle board screws made of galvanized steel

It is best to buy the screws separately to increase stability. Also, keep in mind: the spacing of the mounting holes is crucial – always use multiple screws to distribute the weight.

If you had drywall (e.g., gypsum board) instead of concrete, different fasteners would be required.

6x70 mm (2.8x2.8 inch) chipboard screws with appropriate wall plugs are standard for Metod wall cabinets on concrete. You don't need any other screws.

Thanks for the precise information! What about the type of screw—should they be strictly chipboard screws, or would machine screws be better? I ask because I want to be as sure as possible about stability and durability. Are there any specific IKEA recommendations or user experiences on this?

Also: Are the screws driven directly through the carcass into the dowel, or is there an intermediate strip? I want to make sure I do everything correctly before drilling the holes.

Regarding the type of screws: Metod wall cabinets are usually fixed with chipboard screws. These have a partially threaded shaft that pulls the cabinet flush against the wall, which is more difficult to achieve with machine screws.

Ikea does not recommend machine screws for wall mounting the Metod series, as these are primarily intended for furniture assembly.

Regarding installation:
The screws are inserted directly through the pre-drilled holes in the back panel into the wall anchors. There is no intermediate rail with Ikea Metod, unless you use a mounting strip, which is optional.

Make sure not to overtighten the screws to avoid damaging the wood.
