Hello everyone, I’m planning to update my living room with IKEA Besta furniture to give it a more modern look and I’m looking for suitable color combinations that work well with Besta while emphasizing a contemporary style. I’m especially interested in how to combine colors so that the Besta pieces not only stand out but also create a harmonious atmosphere. What color combinations do you recommend for the fronts, shelves, or back panels, especially in line with current modern interior design trends? Are there any experiences showing which colors are better to avoid? Thanks in advance for your opinions and tips!

The topic of color combinations for IKEA Besta is quite nuanced. When planning, the lighting conditions in the room should be considered first, as dark furniture can often feel overwhelming in small or poorly lit spaces. A recommended approach is to choose fronts in matte white or sand tones, as they are versatile and modern.

Choosing the accent color for handles or shelves is important: based on my experience, soft gray tones to blue shades create an elegant look. For back panels, you can select backing boards, for example, in matte glass effect, with colors like graphite gray or deep pine green, which remain understated and do not dominate the room.

Combining different surface textures, such as matte fronts with high-gloss accents, can also emphasize a modern look. A tip for planning: use color samples in the room to ensure the combination harmonizes with the floor and walls. What colors do you currently have in the room? This strongly influences the choice.

At the moment, the walls are painted in a very light cream white, and the floor is medium-dark oak parquet. The room size is about 25 sqm (270 sq ft) and receives plenty of natural light. I believe the room is kept fairly neutral, so the BESTA combination should add some "life" without being too dominant or colorful.

With the light wall color and oak parquet flooring, I would recommend BESTA fronts in white or light gray. Matte black or dark metal handles work well as accents. This creates a modern, clean design and leaves room for decorative elements.

I can easily understand how challenging it is to find the right balance. The BESTA series, in particular, offers many options, which can be overwhelming at first glance. It might be a good idea to start with small color accents instead of committing to everything color-wise immediately. For example, you can try out colored decorative elements or wall art before purchasing the furniture to see which tones work best in the room.

That’s a valuable tip, thank you! I’m considering whether to choose a light gray option instead of the classic white fronts. That way, I could combine either black or wood-colored accents. What do you think—would that feel too cold or rather elegant in a room with light cream-white walls and oak parquet flooring? I hope this doesn’t sound too specific, but these details are exactly what matter in design.
