ᐅ Which Cat cables should be installed on the exterior wall? Issues with moisture?

Hello everyone,
as I already mentioned in another thread, our internet connection in the house is quite basic, relying on Wi-Fi and repeaters. Now I have the following thought:
In a few days, work will begin on the facade. It will receive a new plaster finish. This would be a good opportunity to install additional cables on the exterior wall. The plan is to run wiring for extra lighting on the facade and at least two cables (3 x 2.5 mm2 (3 x 0.01 inch2)) for infrared heaters, which might be installed later under a patio cover. For this, corresponding channels will be cut into the existing facade and then replastered.
Now the question is: is it possible to run Cat cables along the facade to provide internet to all floors through wired connections? We would drill a hole in the exterior wall at the spot where the “router” is located in the living room and run the cables on the outside wall to the respective rooms. I assume moisture protection needs to be considered here? What type of cables would be required? Cat 5 should definitely be sufficient, right? What about potential moisture issues? Running cables along the exterior wall is, of course, not the most elegant solution but certainly the easiest.
Thanks a lot 🙂

The house connection is in the basement. You could also go out directly from there. But the router is located in the living room.

Is it connected to a TAE socket or something else?

In thirty years, I probably won’t care much about internet technology.
By then, I’ll be more grateful if I can still manage to go to the bathroom independently and participate in life with a reasonably clear mind... 😎

Who knows. Maybe by then you’ll need it to connect your robot vacuum, self-cooking microwave, or care robot, or to video chat with your grandchildren in 16K resolution.... 🙂

Regardless of the fact that a cable is always the best solution, I just want to note for the record that Powerline can certainly be an alternative. The biggest issue is that you only know the actual performance once it’s plugged in. Many factors come into play, such as the quality of the wiring and the length of the cable.

It can work very well, but it can also perform poorly.

We supplied our old apartment with it for many years, and for example, it worked very well there.

But, as I said, this is just for the record.

...

Yes. At the moment, I don’t have a picture available.

A care robot? There was something about that ... 😀
8K is already on the rise. But 60 Mbit is definitely not enough for that (probably). 🙁

Our neighbor has one of those Powerline "things" and says it works "quite" well for him. To test it myself, I would need to order hardware from the "big river" and possibly return it. I’d like to avoid that if possible. The same neighbor would also assist me with his electrical and DIY expertise. This neighbor now knows the electrical installation in our house quite well and has shaken his head a few times already. I can only assess this in a very amateurish or not at all way.

No, you’ll need the "Mind 50TB" connection (TM) because by then your consciousness will be stored in the cloud and you’ll be controlling your various surrogates across different worlds...

We installed CAT cables within the exterior plaster 20 years ago in the rental building where I lived. A Netgear switch in the basement connected to each of the four apartments, with cables running to every room that has an exterior wall. The internet connection was originally set up in apartment 1 on the ground floor via a DSL splitter, then routed down (also through the exterior wall) to the basement. The system still works today 😉.

That sounds reassuring 🙂

Here is a photo of the utility connection:

Primitive but functional. There is another TAE socket upstairs in the living room where the router and phone are connected.

I took a closer look at the front of the house. The cable routing is problematic because the porch roof and windows are in the way.
