ᐅ What should you do if IKEA HEMNES furniture is not stable after assembly?

Hello everyone,
I recently assembled several IKEA Hemnes furniture pieces, including dressers and bedside tables, but I’ve noticed that they don’t stand very stable after assembly. When I gently shake the furniture, they move noticeably, which is especially uncomfortable with the dressers since they are quite tall. I have checked and tightened all screws and connections multiple times, but the problem persists.
My question is: What can I do if IKEA Hemnes furniture isn’t stable and wobbles after assembly? Are there specific measures or tricks to improve stability without completely disassembling the furniture? Or should I consider replacing certain parts like screws or connector plates?
I’m looking forward to your experiences and tips on what potential faults I should check and which solutions have proven effective. Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I would like to add to the excellent tips already shared by emphasizing the importance of securing furniture to the wall. Even if the piece seems stable on its own, the wall brackets provided with IKEA furniture, especially with the Hemnes series, are by no means optional. They play a crucial role in safety by preventing tall furniture from tipping over.
If you cannot fix the furniture to the wall, at least try to use small anti-slip pads under the feet. There are special furniture pads designed to stop the furniture from sliding, even on slightly uneven surfaces.
Additionally, using thin mats made of foam rubber or felt can help reduce wobbling, particularly on wooden floors.
I hope this advice is helpful to you.

Hello everyone,
I would like to add a few points to the previous posts. The HEMNES furniture line mainly uses a frame construction, which heavily relies on the precise assembly of the side panels and back panels.
A common issue with instability is that the back panel is not fully inserted into the designated grooves and may not be securely fixed in some areas. This can lead to unwanted movement.
Additionally, I recommend using an accurate level during assembly to ensure that all parts are positioned at right angles to each other.
If you have already checked everything, please also inspect the feet of the furniture pieces. On some HEMNES models, the leg height can be adjusted slightly to provide stability on uneven floors.
In conclusion: If the furniture still wobbles, either the connection points are too loose or the floor has uneven spots that cannot be compensated by the furniture leg.

Could you please add whether the back panels are installed and if you assembled the furniture on a wooden floor, tiles, or carpet?Thank you for the questions; they definitely help. Yes, I have properly installed all the back panels. The floor is a solid wood plank floor, which isn’t completely flat, but using a spirit level I couldn’t detect any significant unevenness.

For a better assessment, could you specify the exact model and how you would describe the floor? Carpet, wood, or tiles? As mentioned, there are several dressers from the HEMNES line; each model is called “HEMNES 8-drawer dresser” plus the matching nightstand.
I also tried slightly rotating the furniture to check if the position on the floor was the issue, but the result remained similar. Is there perhaps a way to adjust the feet afterwards?

Is there any way to adjust the feet a bit afterward?HEMNES models usually do not have adjustable furniture feet, at least none with threaded adjustment. However, there are two options:
- Placing thin felt or rubber pads under the furniture legs can compensate for minor floor unevenness.
- Alternatively, you can use furniture wedges (small, wedge-shaped supports) that can be slid under individual legs to slightly adjust the height.
In both cases, the furniture is not mechanically adjusted, but wobbling is significantly reduced.
Since the back panel is securely mounted in your case, you should focus on the floor and the feet supports.
