Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my Malm nightstand from Ikea: the drawer handles are quite loose, making it uncomfortable to open and close the drawers. I have already tried tightening the screws, but that only works temporarily because the holes seem to have worn out a bit. Does anyone know of a permanent solution to secure the handles firmly again? I would also appreciate any tips if there are special fasteners or tricks that Ikea doesn’t provide.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Rust on screws is a serious issue, especially in bedrooms where humidity levels fluctuate. I would definitely switch to galvanized or stainless steel screws. These are more durable and prevent rust problems, which can also cause unsightly stains.
Additionally, you might consider using thread-locking lacquer, which not only prevents screws from loosening but also provides protection against moisture.

Some of the screws have started to show slight rustThat brings me back to this topic: Why not just go for an upgrade right away? 😉 Stainless steel obviously looks much more premium, and the screws are also reusable. To be honest, I find the argument of "originality" less important – it’s your nightstand and your comfort!
Sounds great that the toothpick method worked out! 🙂
Regarding the screws: I would always use at least galvanized or, even better, stainless steel, especially if there is moisture involved. Stainless steel is not only durable but also looks quite elegant – if you enjoy holding the handles so much, at least do it with stylish screws! 😉
